I ran a hobby farm with Chickens, and I let my chicken roam freely around the farm. When I did that their eggs were delicious and the yolks were way darker than store bought eggs, and because of that we sold our eggs out every week when we went to the farmer's market. The best tasting eggnog you'll ever have is made from free range Chicken eggs and whole cream! I only made it twice and I can still remember the taste of it over ten years later, that's how good it tasted!

corn gives that rich color to the yolk... it's just color though... nothing more!... having the chicken out eating little stones helps them dissolving calcium, and make the eggshells thicker and stronger... but that's just that... minor details... all you need for better sales, is better packaging [Chicken, Turkey and Pig farmer here!...]

A friend took a night porter's job in a large well known UK city centre hotel. The porters would set up function rooms, move stuff around and set the place up for the mornings. The head porter told him not to be concerned if he saw the odd cockroach at night. It was an old hotel (though 4*) and roaches were a fact in old buildings. When Rod asked why they didn't get rid of them the head guy said 'Come with me, and keep very quiet.' So, they crept down into the kitchens and they could hear some rustling about. Then the head porter turned the lights on and the floor was a sea of cockroaches that went crazy to hide away. 'You can't get rid of them. As fast as they're trapped and killed off, the new lot are ready to go.'

I also breed a couple species of cockroach and some mealworms, just on a much much smaller scale. My other animals have no complaints about their taste or nutritional value. XD I raised rats too but that was for pets and sometimes for shows. Again, way smaller scale. I wish I had the space for a black soldier fly setup- the larvae have excellent nutritional value and the adults are not only kind of pretty but so delightfully inoffensive- at that stage the flies exist only to mate so they don't have mouths and can't bite you, and their flight is totally soundless. Keeping them for jumping spiders would be amazing because I hate dealing with houseflies, which are noisy and harder to catch if they escape. But dang if jumping spiders don't love their sky raisins.

I worked as a RN on a hospital orthopaedic floor and yes once in a while we had to use leach therapy for patients who went through microvascular surgery of the fingers that got severed. I was a veteran nurse and I was able to perform any tasks but NOT this. Those lab hatched leaches were flown over from NY lab all the way to the hospital in NW USA. Each costed $21 back in the early 90s. I knew exactly what to do but I just could not see myself handling them. I remember I was trying to retrieve one from the sterile water container with my gloved hand. As soon as I saw them swam toward my hand and started sucking on my fingers I lost it. I remember I ran out of the lab screaming and jumped on another nurse crying.

In case of fish food fly lave are a way better source of food. And what they are doing with mosquitoes is actually pretty smart. Giving them useful bacteria that make it so, they don't carry harmful viruses. The old whey using mosquitoes, was making the males sterile to decrease the population of a certain species of mosquitoes, that carried harmful viruses. But what they are doing now is actually smarter. keeping existing ecosystems intact (otherwise another species would just take over)
