Mental health for men is something that doesn't get talked about enough. You can rarely tell if someone is having problems because men tend to push things like that aside and hide it as much as possible. I have suffered severe depression over the years and the downward spiral can be pretty difficult to reverse sometimes. Being out in the bush certainly helps because I only seem to get badly depressed when I have been stuck in the burbs for too long. Your setup is looking pretty sweet now with the RTT. That has be be better than a swag :)

I’ll be honest it’s talked about but no one knows how to respond. So many times during “are u ok day” etc and I’ve responded with no I’m suicidal I have problems and not one one person knows how to deal with that response

@@Shinrin_Yoku_Delica_Adventures It is something people find very confronting I guess. Mental illness has always carried a stigma with it that is still there for many people. I guess in my own case I haven't really discussed the issues with people I am close to and to a great extent I have had to fight depression on my own. I have been suicidal in the past and that is always something people just don't know how to respond to. I don't even know if there are any online services that conect people who suffer from depression but sometimes I think talking with others who have been through the same experiences can be of benefit.
@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen

@@Shinrin_Yoku_Delica_Adventures I have found in my own case that when a downward spiral starts it is very hard to turn around. One thing that does work for me is relatively mindless physical activity, mostly chores like mopping the floor or something similar. It gets me up and doing something rather than just sitting and spiralling further down. I think perhaps the chemicals released during physical activity are beneficial but I don't know if it would work for anyone else. This is one reason I think solutions for those who suffer from depression are more likely to come from people who actually suffer from it but have found ways to cope with it.

Great episode. Talking about important stuff because there's important men's stuff to talk about. It's interesting how gut health is proving to be critical for a sense of balance and well being. I'm just happy to see someone who lights a fire using matches, not an expensive and ridiculous flint apparatus sold by a boutique off road store! My sense of priorities mate :)

Good video Matt. It's great to have the ability to head out and relax the mind. We all need it, if we want to admit to it or not. Mental illness is hard. Myself, I don't suffer mental illness, not as far as I'm aware of. But I do like to get out there at times during my days off to put my mind at ease. Because, my wife's diagnosed with mental illness, unfortunately, she hasn't been able to work yet this year because of it. Also, my now 16-year-old stepson has been diagnosed with mental illness. The last 4-5 years have been really hard and has put a lot of strain on us. My wife and I have an 8-year-old together. Even though I don't have mental health issues, it feels like it at times, I am getting to the point that I'm feeling tired all the time. I love my wife to bits; we'll get through this. But yeah, mental illness is definitely not to be underestimated, both for men and women. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the comment mate, I understand your sentiment. I think even for those of us that don’t necessarily have mental health struggles, so to speak, it doesn’t mean that life isn’t hard and still has an impact. That impact can still great stress and are cause for attention. I admire your strength and I hope your situation finds some peace soon mate. I appreciate the comment, thanks.

How are you liking the RTT? Compared to swagging it for so long? We have one on our trailer and i like it when it comes to the quality but they arnt overly comfortable mattress wise even with adding a self inflating mattress to thicken it up.. The other thing i found annoying is the climb up and down the ladder in the middle of the night when ya busting for a piss, whilst trying not to wake the other. I know obvious when it comes to an RTT but at first i didnt think itd be much of an issue until after much usage.
