@@jamesw7072 But not practical now days. Also, a woman might enjoy working and being out in the world. The problem is we don't need an 8 hour a day 5 days a week organization of work. We have enough technology so that if we work 6 hours or even 5 hours a day, 4 days a week, it should be enough and without corporations cutting yearly salary. It was industrialization and unionization that cut the week to 40 hours a week. When society was agrarian, it was can't see to can't see, ie., sun up to sun down. We need to strengthen unions so that we can have 6 to 8 weeks of paid vacation like they do in other countries. Also, add to that a shortened work week, paid sick leave and parent leave, leave for new parents (which is a thing in European countries), etc.

Companies don't appreciate you for all your hard work and service, instead they want you to step back and train the younger generation so they can become your boss and convince everyone you're not as productive as a new grad, then they give you lower performance reviews and ultimately get you out the door. I want to do a couple of side hustles and just enjoy what I never have time for because I’m so exhausted M-F! I used to have three hour daily commutes, 1 1/2 hour each way, I too had a 12 hour work day….these days I work remote but it is the most micro-managed job I’ve ever had. I even have to let someone know I’m getting up to go to the restroom, it’s crazy! I have four months to go….I hope that everyone who is not happy in their jobs can truly find something they enjoy. This is the truth… I am doing the jobs of at least 3 or 4 people and am close to burnout. I cannot see myself staying here 10 more years until retirement. I took myself back to school for an MA so that I can transition into something I love. Also, with an MA you can be eligible to teach at a college… much better hours and more flexibility, for good pay! I’m a year from graduation. Everytime I get exasperated by the day job I remember the light at the end of the tunnel. I had to create a new future because these folks don’t care; they will use you and leave you SPENT. The more you do the more they pile on you like a mule. I pace myself now because I am not trying to kill myself over here. What is most important as you age is creating memories with your loved ones and preparing for the later years. I don’t need luxuries; I need peace and joy.

I feel this in my soul. I am an entrepreneur. It's hard work, but a Lil more flexible. But I still have to put in hours. It does sap your creativity and ambitions. I too don't think we were meant to work this way. I agree there are things I like and dislike about those generations after X😅 But they are innovative. That's why they have so many millennial millionaires. That said they have access to funding and support we never had access to. And Black women have been killing it with new companies and ventures. I like this new direction and path. I'm 52 and looking to get into the cannabis business. My plan is for this to be my legacy and create generational wealth. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 💗

Wow. You are speaking gems! I recently was telling my 23 year old son that they have it easier because it is easier now to make money without gatekeepers. I am Gen X also, and when we were coming up, you couldn't have a job or any income whatsoever unless someone "opened the gate" and let you in. Now, they can turn on an app on their phone and make money whenever they want. They are onto something. I agree with everything that you said. God bless.

Well I work smarter not harder and if they tell me they need it back by end of the day, I let them know 30 minutes before the end of the day that I’m not going to finish on time and then they say to finish in by mid morning next day. And guess what? I did finish but I knew they didn’t really need it - that’s just the deadline bosses love to give 😂😂

Hey there. I’m 33 so a young millennial. I am tired too. I feel like I’m in between when it comes to what you’re saying and what gen z is saying. I was taught to go to college or else but once I got in the work force 10 years ago I realized this stuff was for the birds but I still tried my best to figure it out. I kept thinking, oh this job isn’t for me, maybe the next job will be better but the next job was never better. I started looking into entrepreneurship back in 2018 but failed multiple times and kept working a job. I have since learned that even the most successful business owners have failed more than succeeded and I’ve learned to follow my purpose and not just the money so I am working on becoming an artist since I have always been creative and artistic. This time I won’t give up. I’m currently “unemployed” but will work flexible jobs or gigs like substitute teaching or even tutoring while I work on improving my art. Life is too short to work yourself to death, follow your purpose and what fulfills you and everything will fall in place.

I just found your channel. This video is speaking to me. As a creative myself, working a 9-5 job in the court system, I am exhausted. I'm 41 and burned out. Not really sure how much longer I can hang on here. I'm glad you're speaking on this because non-creative people don't understand how draining it is to not fully, and functionally do what you were created to do. I do things on the side, but it's always AFTER my job, and I am drained. It's funny you said that sometimes you just stare when someone asks you something because your brain is so scattered. THIS IS HOW I FEEL. It's hard to explain when it happens, but I work in the Courtroom and sometimes I'll just stare for like 3 seconds, then I'm back. My thoughts are crossing over each other and I'm thinking about all the creative things I should be doing right now. I'm a writer and have my own publishing company, but trying to find a way to do it full-time and still be able to take care of myself. I also just decided to go to law school after wanting to go since I was a child, but my upbringing was not good so a lot of my dreams were rerouted. Now, I'm almost 3 months into law school, working full-time, and trying to do my creative business on the side. But now that I'm in it, I am struggling with the thoughts of "did I make the right decision". Wondering why life couldn't have been kinder to me growing up so that I could have went to law school in my 20's. Now, I'm so exhausted, and am near tears. This video is speaking so many facts. The fear of the unknown the older you get. Being suffocated in your creativity and feeling like it's too late to take a jump. It's suffocating. I once had a co-worker tell me in the break room that she knows I'm suffering with a smile on my face. Her words "you must feel like you're in prison coming here day to day, knowing you're a creative". I silently cried. Yes.....yes! It does feel like a prison, but my job is taking care of me as an unmarried single woman with no children. I'm working on taking a leap in the next few years. We were created to live life abundantly, and knowing that God created us with natural gifts and talents that we're too drained to use is not abundance. Thank you for this very relatable video. Please never remove it. I need to start posting again.

New subbie here. I'm generation X too. Our generation and the Boomers always complain about gen Z saying they don't want to work, But I agree with you. They are definitely on to something. Been working since 14. I don't hate my job but I'm not fulfilled. Tbh, If I didn't need medical insurance, I would probably quit. But insurance is SO EXPENSIVE.

I’m Gen X and I saw a lotta black owned businesses growing up in SW GA. I rode to school on black owned school buses. Bought candy in black owned convenient stores. I washed clothes in a black owned laundry mat. I bought my first record in a black owned record store. A lot of those businesses were not replaced by blacks. Indians have them now thru immigrant business grants.
