One thing I wish I was told about when beginning to lucid dream is the risks. Now, I'm not referring to those clickbaity ones like whether you'll see the hat man if you look into a mirror or whatever. But rather, exploring your dreams is a way to learn more about yourself, and the things you learn about yourself might be the more stigmatizing kind. Or maybe it'll kick off a years-long identity crisis. Things like that.

You did a decent job of explaining dream delving with recall, and hardly anyone on KZitem does this. I don't generally recommend KZitem content to beginners as there is a high percentage of inaccurate representation and information, which is not helpful for a beginner. You're one of the like 3-5 people on the platform I recommend people listen to. You and I do define dream signs differently. You're looking for more recurring dream signs, whereas I define a dream sign as anything anomalous, unusual, abnormal, or out of place in any way, shape, or form. As far as reality tests go, I call them beginner's criticality. The goal is to critically examine our environments and ourselves and our memories and be on the watchout for anything out of place in any way. It requires criticality, or critical thinking, or critical awareness, in order to properly identify what a result means. Your point about being thorough and thoughtful is absolutely correct and crutial, as doing reality tests habitually and mindlessly defeats the purpose. Another approach I generally recommend people do is examine their memories since they last thought they woke up. Look for anything out of place in any way, whether it breaks physics or not, or just departs from your norma routine. That helps getting you to learn to recognize when something is out of place, as that is a key indicator that you may be in fact dreaming. Your take on reality tests is a pretty good one. I've also heard that you're on the omnilucid server. I'm there as well, and would love to chat with you sometime if our timezones ever matched up. Eastern US here, so 5 hours behind. Tend to be around in the afternoons on Saturdays and Sundays, so that's the evenings your time. Been practicing now for 471 days and 470 nights with 409 logged successful results. Lucid dreaming is a passion for me, which is why much of my free time involves me on two Discord servers teaching it to others.

Thanks for your comment and I think you’re the only one who’s taken me up on the offer to add more detail. Much appreciated! As I said in the video it’s only scratching the surface and at 20 mins long I’m asking a lot in terms of viewers attention. I may delve deeper and cover more advanced recall and reality testing methods in later videos but this particular episode is just aimed at beginners. The comment are a great place to expand on topics and ask questions, so thanks again for participating! 💚 yes I was invited to the discord server but I’m not really active on there to be honest. We can pencil something in for the future if there’s something in particular you’d like to chat about, I often work on weekends but we can figure something out I’m sure

@@LucidDreamingforEejits I go into KZitem comments from time to time, particularly to attempt to assist people, answer questions, discuss points, that sort of thing. I'm normally used to the point counterpoint of a Discord chat, which tends to be slightly less detailed but more immediate. I say slightly less detailed, cause I'm that guy who writes upwards of 300 words in a single message. :) My goal is to be as informative as possible, and there are a lot of things on KZitem that are either underdiscussed or misrepresented, so I want to highlight my perspective on things, but more importantly answer questions, find people who are looking for help and help them. You'd be surprised, but in some comment sections, someone will ask a question and it can sit there for days even weeks without a reply. That's not always the case, but I've witnessed it enough. I like having almost academic style discussions, either that or just helping people and serving the community here, which is what I try to do. I'd love to learn about your experience though, how you came to learn about lucid dreaming and what got you into it, that sort of thing. Maybe we could find a time to chat when our respective schedules aren't so bogged down. I wish you the best.

I like the advice about switching positions in bed in order to remember dreams. I've never heard that advice before and I've been thinking as to why that might help. I think its because when you are in that "drunken" stouper upon first waking up, you are too sleepy still. Changing positions wakes you up just enough so that you can think better. I've noticed that when I sit up in bed and meditate as soon as I wake up, I can remember dreams easier (as opposed to continuing to lie down). This morning I tried simply changing my position in bed and it did seem to have the same effect. You just have to get yourself out of that half-asleep state first, then the dream memories usually come flooding back! 😴

I can't remember where I heard it first, it might have been Daniel actually, but I think the original theory was that you may have been lying in a different position during a specific dream and returning your body to that physical position might subconsciously trigger the memory to surface.

I remember you. Also, association is a powerful thing, and if you change position and associate with a position you were in when you were dreaming, that can help, as association is the foundation of memory. I do wish he had mentioned thinking about the last experience you had, or engaging your senses, what was I feeling, hearing, etc. I find that to be helpful.

@@LucidDreamingforEejits You do, but the way I interpreted lingering sense is, lingering overall sense of a setting or what was going on. Physical and psychological was mentioned, but I'm talking more like if you don't get any memories coming to you, thinking okay, what was I just seeing? What was I just feeling, hearing, smelling, etc? I may have just misinterpreted you there, but that's sort of what I'm going for. Thanks for the reply. :)

14:10 The reason clocks and technology is like this in dreams is because that's what you expect. The action of the reality test isn't what matters, it's the criticality
@LucidDreamingforEejits
2 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly, even though during the day clocks and hands behave reliably, when we check them in a dream, to reality test, part of us must already suspect we are dreaming to prompt the test in the first place so we expect something different to reality. It's a complicated explanation though and probably deserves more in-depth discussion outside of this introductory lesson

@@LucidDreamingforEejits Explaining schema, or associations between things, is a good idea, because our expectations themselves are schema, and schema combined with emotions doesn't just inform our perspective like it does when we're awake, but in dreams, schema and emotions define reality, determine the course of events and outcomes from triggers and actions taken. Schema is the most powerful thing you can control in your dreams.

@@SkyfallBlindDreamer schema is a big intimidating word for some eejits to comprehend but I will look into ways of simplifying the concept in the future
@SkyfallBlindDreamer
2 жыл бұрын
@@LucidDreamingforEejits It can be an intimmidating word, intention can be too, because so many people don't know that intention is something they do on a regular basis, so I find demystifying these terms to be helpful. Everyone has experienced schema and the effects of schema, so I tend to point to examples that people would know and understand. If you see a red traffick signal for example, you probably think that it means cars should stop? Why do you think this? You've learned this, you have learned to associate a red traffick light to cars stopping. At the same time, if you are walking and crossing a street, you don't cross in front of moving traffick because you have learned that this is dangerous. Anything learned, any association between any thing and anything else is a schema. Memory works this way, and ironically, association and schema are extremely similar, but the longer word tends to be more reddily understood. :) If you see a McDonald's sign, the famous golden arches, you probably associate that sign with fastfood, or maybe obesity, or cheap food, or crappy food, or whatever. These are all schema, and not limited to any one person's associations. What if I asked you to consider that a blind person in the parking lot got mad and drove the car he was in straight into the McDonalds and started screaming for french fries, or chips depending on where in the world you are. If you thought about that scenario enough, you would associate it with McDonalds, then when you next saw a McDonalds sign, you'd remember the crazy scenario about the blind person driving through the building. This is how schema can be formulated and altered, and these associations themselves are the foundation of dream control. That's roughly how I go about explaining schema to people, because you're right, it is a concept most people are not familiar with, but it's an amazing one to learn and I feel that learning by example here, particularly relatable examples, is the best way to learn this concept. Thanks for reading.

I've often heard the recommendation to reality check when waking up, but i find it hard to do so as it distracts me from remembering my dreams and writing in my journal. Should i change it to after i've written in my journal?
@LucidDreamingforEejits
2 жыл бұрын
Hey, good question. So I would usually reality test if I think I've woken up straight from a dream in the middle of the night or a WILD attempt. If the test fails (you are awake) then you are usually still able to recall most of the dream. When I finally wake up to go to work or whatever I tend to skip/forget the reality test because I have an alarm going off or a cat slapping me in the face 😅 so I do my best at thay point to remember the dreams of the night. Recall will get easier with time, but sometimes you do have to make a decision whether you want to reality test, attempt a DEILD or get up to record your dreams. At the beginning (especially if you are struggling to have LDs) I would recommend you prioritise the journal. The more dreams you can record the better your chances are in the long run
