I've recently taken the HIT pill, and I have to admit I'm really enjoying my training. I'm trialing two higher intensity days at the beginning of the week, and two more volume focused days at the end. The best of both worlds, as it were.

To me it sounds like a 4-day high intensity/high volume split, rather than HIT. Your body doesn't know you lift at the end or the beginning of a week, your body sees you train 4 days and runs with it. That's not HIT

Question for next Q&A : Do you think spamming the same lift is better or having multiple variations of it is best ? Love the variations of questions this go-round. Big congratulations on the 15K, man! Love to see it. I'll drop a line for the next Q&A - NH recently made a small point that left a large impact on me - the idea that your frequency and intensity should match your current ability to recover, and not the other way around. Got so caught up with starting strength that I forgot why I started lifting in the first place. To see Alan Thrall embrace this type of training is great. I just think the space is occupied by too many flashy influencers on PEDs that it made me think the whole style of training is for douche bags and 'real men' train for strength. Fuck it I cant wait to start a proper hypertrophy program and enjoy my training again.

i can answer as to why just do one set. Its because it is all that is required to grow. Why would you do another set at a lesser intensity when you already have performed the greatest intensity that you physically can on that one set. Id be more than happy to talk about this more. HIT is not about fearing mongering fatigue, its about showing the adaptation curve and how you have to recover, before you grow. You literally said it yourself. You spammed PPL and didnt get injured, by made little progress. You literally explained what the HIT principle is teaching. And iv have trained with DYHIT as well as HITTMMW over the past year and I went from 175 to 205/210. I am the strongest I have ever been in my life and my elbows/wrist have never felt better. Currently training 2/3 times a week. It really is that simple. Beat the books and lift like you have a gun to your head.

My inner chest gets as sore as the outer chest, is it still in doubt? Methods include really focusing on lateral movement of the arms and a deep stretch. If I have two chest pressing movements in a program, is two unilateral movements overkill? Currently using a unilateral incline machine chest press and DB incline chest press. The machine press has been pretty consistent in terms of the feeling and connection to the chest. The DB press can vary week to week as Im still trying to find the right angles for it. With that said, I'm debating if it would be wise to keep the machine press and swap to a straight bar movement. If that's the case then I would like to try out the incline smith press. Perhaps if one unilateral movement was incline and the other flat it would be fine, but both or incline. It may not be varried enough. Do note, there is a fly movement plus DB pullover (more lat focus but there's some chest). So there is a good amount of stretching of the chest.

Question for next Q&A: How important is it that weight gain happens smoothly/evenly when bulking? I try to gain about 0.5lb per week, but it ends up being a few weeks of more rapid gains then some plateaus. I find it really hard to ensure it happens gradually. How much does this matter?

It's impossible to keep gains exactly smooth, I think of it more as a saw blade. Developing the lats and spinal erectors (lower back in particular) + low levels of body fat.
@iangraham-white5717
Жыл бұрын
Blow up your spinal erectors… conventional deadlifts or pure hip hinges (such as good mornings/rdl variants) and maybe back extensions if you need more lower back focus… deficit hip hinges can work as well… You don’t necessarily have to floor deadlift to develop your lower back, I think good mornings and strapped rdls are better than traditional deadlifts for lower back development because you can do them closer to failure and with higher volume but a lot of the noble natties seem to like floor deads… You also won’t lose a ton of grip strength doing strapped rdls and ignoring floor deads if you just progress on weighted chin-ups/pull-ups without straps but strapped rdls will absolutely blast your glutes, hammies, and spinal erectors and strapped rdls will help you build work capacity since they are more time efficient than floor deadlifts and you can do them for much more volume… If you are afraid of strapping up for rdls then watch Bald Omni-Man’s video on using lifting straps, strapped rdls have been straight up magic for my lower back but I do think my lower back is hyper responsive to resistance training so don’t take it from me that strapped rdls will blow up your posterior chain, including spinal erectors (take it from Bald Omni-Man who does strapped rdls from deficits and pauses in the bottom position)… If you have the recovery economy and enjoy barbell row variations consider throwing in some pendlay rows (more Israetel or Nippard style), deficit pendlay rows (more Israetel style), or deficit barbell rows (Arnold style) on an upper body day to work the lower back more frequently because just touching upon the lower back frequently (3+ times per week) worked exceptionally well for me but I do understand the counterargument and believe I have at least slightly above average lower back genetics (I pulled 315 for 5 conventional deadlift beltless within my first 7 months of lifting and have had canyons for spinal erectors that are way out of proportion with my lats and traps)

Also look at JESUS VARELA BILBO he is the best bench presser of spain in natural federations, and he looks like a muscular father would look, i dont know what it is but he is one of the only ones i trust on being natty. Anyway he trains 40 mins in the chest days and he goes all out with a method something like a westside and HIT all mixed together (becouse he trusts high reps and also relatively low volume) Also BB read the study on this guy compared with the Borostiaga method, it is called Borostiaga y Bilbo something like that i think the method of progression of this guy is insanelly smart.
