Ron Springs and James Jones ran right over Washington. Datson car commercials were very popular in 1980.

First regular season game back from horrible injury for my Fave Cowboy of ALL TIME Charlie Waters (Bates and Waters my FAVE Cowboys of all time) and Charlie get's an nterception. From 1980-1983 we shuld have won EVERY Super Bowl, at lest 2. This brings tears to my eyes. We should have more rings from the 1970-1973 era but you can blame ONE FUCKING PERSON: Duane Thomas for that. There is NO ONE to blame from 1980-1983, everyone played their own role. People who only blame Danny are idiots. Danny White was a GREAT QB and I love LOVE Tony Romo but if you have Dandy Don in the ROH then you MUST have Danny and Tony in the ROH. I know Tony will be there but then so should Danny. The only playoff game Danny truly had a bad day was the 1983 Rams game. Then Gary Meyers and his Dallas based newspaper sabotaged our 1984 Silver ANniv. year.

Those Cowboys teams 1980 and 1981 were very good but blew their chance at home field in each season - which made it very tough. I thought they were better than the Eagles in 1980 and just narrowly lost to the 49ers in 1981 (although I don’t think they would have beaten the Bengals in SBXVI. Cincy had the most balanced team that year and probably shoulda beaten the 49ers...)... After that, their core group was getting a little long in the tooth and the rest of the league had caught up to Landry’s system. They were still good but not quite good enough, effectively fell apart at the end of the 1983 season... I agree with you about Danny White. Great quarterback!

In the two games Dallas and Washington played the previous season, the Redskins scored 34 points both times. Yet in this game could manage only a field goal. Their offense simply wasn't as good without John Riggins.
@williamhicks7736

Well, the Cowboys’ defense was also in turmoil during 1979 season. Too Tall Jones took a year off to attempt a boxing career, Charlie Waters was injured the entire season and Thomas Henderson was released in the middle of the season due to a drug problem... The Cowboys had to win their last three games to win the division. Their wins against Philly and Washington were two of the best games of that season - real dogfights! One the best jobs of coaching in Landry’s career. They barely made it. If Larry Cole doesn’t wrap up Riggins late in that last game, the Redskins go 11-5 and probably host the Rams. When I think about it, the 1979 Redskins probably would have made it to the Super Bowl because they were better than the Rams and Tampa... Of course, I don’t think they coulda beaten Pittsburgh... But we’ll never know.

Hall of Famer Art Monk on the bench so Thompson and McDaniel can start
@jackprather3471

It was a weird formality, with Monk literally getting on the field on the team's second offensive play and making a catch for a first down on their third. For most of the previous decade Washington coach George Allen had a notorious mistrust of rookies, and it doesn't seem to have worn completely off during Pardee's tenure. Allen constantly traded away draft picks for veteran players. It worked for him, with the team making the playoffs several times during his stint there. Thanks to the brilliance of Bobby Beathard and Joe Gibbs there wasn't a long term slump due to thin talent on the roster after those veteran players aged out.

Try not to be an idiot. Dorsett retired as 2nd leading rusher in history. Is still in Top 8....Danny White was not underrated, was just as good as Theismann or Jaworski if not better in that era, he just couldn't get farther than 3 straight NFC Championship Games from 1980-1982.
@williamhicks7736

@@cowboyz2k3 Yup. The Dallas offense (which I believe was ranked #1 each season in points scored) carried that team 1980-82. So Danny White was an outstanding quarterback. It was the defense from 1980-82, which still pretty good but wasn’t the best and would let them down in the big games. 1980 - Eagles had top defense. 1981 was SF and 1982 - not sure exactly but wouldn’t be surprised if it was Miami or Washington... The best years for that DoomsdayII group (Martin, White, Jones, Bruenig, Hegman, Waters, Henderson, etc... ) was 1975-1978. They were AWESOME over that stretch! Probably shoulda been in SB 11 (or at least made it to the NFC championship in ‘76) but the Rams (who had a great defense also) won a tight one 14-12 in Dallas. In 1979, they released Henderson for drugs, Waters got hurt and Too Tall Jones took the year off to pursue a boxing career... It was disaster.... they started out 7-1 and then barely made the playoffs- thanks to some miracle comebacks by Staubach... Had they managed to get past the Rams, strong chance they woulda beaten Tampa Bay, which had no offense, at home.... Loved Landry’s teams of the late 70’s early 80’s... They had a great run!
