Matt Holmes, grief support specialist, shares a short story that claims that there is never just one patient. We are never alone, when one of us is sick we are all infected and when one of us dies we all lose a piece of ourselves. When caring for the sick you allow yourself to become infected, giving up that piece of yourself to feel another’s pain. The giving of yourself should not be overlooked, but instead is a calling.
Being in unfamiliar surroundings and being sick can be stressful for your child and your family. It’s been proven that journaling and having a place to write down health information can greatly reduce some of the stress of a hospital stay. Through our Narrative Medicine program, we provide concrete ways to encourage these activities for your child and your family. Learn more: bit.ly/3QtEYrf
