Jordan Trail day 33
Stage: Abbasiya - Jabal Kharazeh
Distance: 31 km
Total distance: 821km
I rested with my Bedouins. In the morning I felt full of energy and after breakfast I went on my way. I had less than 4km to the first point on today's route. The former city of the Nabataeans - Humayma did not survive in good condition until our times. In the past, it served an important function on the Petra - Aqaba route. For me, this place, apart from being able to see it, gave me the opportunity to recharge my battery because my powerbank was already empty. Unfortunately, there was no electricity at the Bedouins. By the way, I caught a cup of tea with the guys who carried out cleaning work in the former city.
After a nice time in Humayma, I moved on. From the morning I dreamed of a cold Mirinda and the trail was supposed to lead me to the town where the shops were supposed to be. Unfortunately, the road, as it often happens on the Jordan Trail, passed the town sideways. So I had to turn left and add about 2 kilometers to replenish my water supplies and buy food for the next few days. I loaded the backpack so much that I thought I wouldn't move 😅 However, the views outside the city delighted me so much that I forgot about the weight.
The landscape has changed a lot, huge spaces have opened up. Sand and small dunes appeared. I walked soaking up every moment. Everywhere I looked I was surrounded by indescribable beauty. The hike was extremely pleasant and I was full of energy after the last few days without strength. I decided to reach the rock bridge and spend the night there. When I saw Jabal Kharazeh in the distance, the last cars with tourists started to leave. The sunset was approaching so I could admire this miracle of nature in the last rays.
On the opposite side, nestled against a rock, was a tent with souvenirs, tea, and snacks. Even here the commerce got here. I went to say hello and inform that I will be staying next door. However, two young people, as it turned out to be brothers, invited me to spend the night in a tent. I liked the idea very much because I didn't have to set up the tent.
I brought in the stuff, and of course, a giant teapot appeared right away. We talked a lot and the guys taught me Arabic. Then there was dinner and more tea. The brothers are really wonderful, they radiate extraordinary energy. Wanting to repay the favor, I bought a scarf from them so tomorrow in the desert I will look professional :)
Jordan Trail day 34
Stage: Jabal Kharazeh - Wadi Rum
Distance: 34km
Total distance: 855km
The night was very calm. By dawn, all three of us were up. The boys started preparing breakfast. Today's meal was premium. Since they had run out of bread, I was able to share my food. After breakfast I climbed the rock bridge and then said goodbye to the boys and set off on the trail. It was wonderful to walk. The views were beautiful. However, around 9 o'clock in the desert there was a lot of traffic. Off-road cars with tourists drove close to me like crazy. So I left the trail and I was walking alone from dune to dune. I had the desert to myself. It cost me a few kilometers more but it was worth it.
After 1 p.m. I reached the village of Shakriya and entered the shop. When the seller saw me, he immediately invited me to the mattress and poured me a glass of tea. We sat for quite a while trying to talk. When I said I had to go, he asked me to stay longer. So I stayed with half an hour and when I was saying goodbye, I got a lot of water on the road.
Next, the trail ran all the time on asphalt, first to the Visitors Center about 8 kilometers and then 7 kilometers to the village of Rum. As I was walking along the road, I booked a place in a camp in the desert. I want to stay here for 2 days and wander around. Also, I need to recharge my batteries because I've drained almost all of them over the last few days.
When I got to the village, I called the owner of the camp and he took me to the camp a few kilometers into the desert. I was finally able to take a shower and plug in my chargers. I also ate a delicious dinner and chatted with Poles 😁
Now I am ready to rest and tomorrow I will spend another moment in the desert
