Half the salary: that's the issue: when there's a pregnancy the amount paid should be half what it costs to raise the child. NOT half your salary. If the kids uses $500 worth of diapers, food, clothing, meds etc, his portion should be 50%. If she's already in a 2 bdrm apt she gets zilch for that. If she's in a 1 bdrm and has to move up to a 2, he pays half the difference. Unfortunately, the courts see it differently: The man MUST pay for all the costs of the kid AND pay the mother as well.
@badbadmanly903

The way it works: aggregate both parents salary, that determines the style of life a child can expect. Then, each pays a prorate share based on their salary. That’s how child support is calculated in America. I used to be a child support enforcement supervisory agent.

Pregnant after one time. Though it definately can happen he better go for that DNA test. My brother went through a similar situation and after 8 years found out the child was not his and unfortunately New York State laws states he will still be responsible for this child until 21 yrs old. My family loves the child anyway but still the woman/mother involved was so grimy for doing what she did, she knew from the beginning she wasn't sure who the real father was.

When there's no consequences or accountability for women for their actions they will continue to take the piss. All the equality talk is BS until it impacts them directly or makes them look like a piece a sh#t. In some ways couldn't that be considered fraud? Making someone invest their life into a situation that potentially is not their situation cause the woman wasn't upfront about the child being 50/50 chance not the guy's. Then later if it's found out the child is not the guy's, the law chains the non biological guy to still pay and the mother has no consequences. Where's all the equality people to fight and get rid of the laws that chains non biological father who was not provided their equality for paying for a situation that's not theirs ? DNA paternity test should have been the first thing you mentioned, Bill. Beyond that, the woman is CHOOSING to have the baby. SHE should have the RESPONSIBILITY for it, especially since SHE is the primary earner. Of course, society bends over backwards to serve women. "You want one? Okay, but YOU are going to feed it, walk it, and clean up after it." Any man who 'does the honourable thing' is being a sucker. Women LIE. Women STEAL. Do your duty if you ARE proven to be responsible.

YES! So right. And if she starts some garbage about "you dont trust me blah blah" I dont give a shit. As a woman, if I am absolutely sure for certain that there is no way no chance that the kid can be other than the accused, I'll opt for the paternity test. Because I know I am right and not ashamed. Plus he has the right to be certain and relieved of all doubts. This happened to a friend of mine, similarly. Had a girlfriend for the summer and come fall she's pregnant and things look hopeful for the couple. Two months into the pregnancy they're looking for an apartment, signed the lease together and not soon after before even moving in, she wipes out his bank accounts with the banking statement info she somehow obtain when trying to get that apartment. Of course he hates her after this and breaks up. I told my friend, you know that's a federal crime get 7 years the least, what is she doing? Why would she do this to the "father" of her child? She's going to need 18 years of support that the one time withdrawal of your bank account aint gonna match. Dude, this kid aint yours. Begged him to get a paternity test, sure enough (he waited waaaay too long) got it and the kid isnt his! Supported them for a year and a half for nothing.

+PumpkinEskobarr Funny story time aha When I was 16 this chick claimed that I got her pregnant, we were going out at the time and ended up breaking up when she was about 4 months pregnant. I figured it's mine so I've gotta step up. Didn't even have a thought that this kid wasn't mine. So, 3 years down the line of seeing this kid and paying out £300 a month, she calls me, tells me the kid is ill and would I mind not seeing him this week. Fair enough I said. Anyway, the next weekend comes, I go round to her place and she's moved. Cuts off all contact, no one who knew her would tell me whats going on. Nothing. So about a year goes by and I get a facebook message. It's her and the message just says "are you going to pay for your son?" I'm like fuck this shit, you've made things difficult for a year, I'll make things difficult for you. So I reply "Let me see the kid and I will" No reply. 3 Months later I get the same message, so I send the same reply. This goes on for like a year. All the while I'm trying to take things to court, but because my name isn't on the birth certificate I can't do shit. After this year has gone by I get a letter, she's trying to sue me for child support. Sidenote - I don't know where you're from but in the UK, if you're being sued for child support and you believe (and have proof) that she has no intention of allowing you to see that child and she's just interested in the money, you can ask that a court goes through the evidence and if they agree you don't have to pay. Anyway, I have these months of messages where it's clear she's not gonna let me see the kid and just wants the money. So I ask them to look into that and because I'm not on the birth certificate I have to have a DNA test. Turns out, after all this shit that I wasn't the father. Now you tell me, would a court let me sue her for that 3 years of £300 a month. Nah, course they fucking wouldn't. Funny thing is, the kids now like 7 and despite having absolute proof it's not mine she still keeps asking me to pay for it.

John Smith Women like that I just want to hurt. I've seen men in my family and good friends get played hard. The mother will use the child as a hostage. I got an uncle who got drag to court needlessly due to custody and child support, and it isn't like he wasn't trying to support her, the crazy mother... well crazy. Kept his daughter from him. Makes no sense. The drama got so bad we had to encourage him to back down just to so he wouldn't go mad. One year before her sixteenth birthday, he wanted me to accompany him to visit her, he wanted to bring a cake, balloons and presents... real nice. Day of he didn't come get me, i figure he changed his mind. Sometime after that we hanging out talking, ask if he saw my cousin and he said no, came with the presents, cake everything... the mother wouldn't call her down or let him in the house. They argue, he left. And as he is telling me this, he's fighting tears. NEVER in my life have I seen this guy get emotional like that. Crazy people just like making other people miserable.

I've said this for years, but I think the only solution to prevent situations like this is co-parenting contracts. People need to sign contracts when they buy a house, go into business together, get married, and they should sign contracts for x number of kids to co-parent together. Consenting to unprotected sex is not consenting to co-parenting. No contract, no obligation to co-parent. Because 100% of the power lies with the woman to keep, abort, or adopt out a man's child, he should at least have the power to reject unwanted fatherhood (just as she can via abortion or adoption), unless of course, he signed a contract to co-parent with a woman. And I am a woman saying this, before anyone calls me a misogynist. It's just about fair distribution of power - the one with the power bears the responsibility, in this case, woman. But poor guy. Life ruined. He'll be forever bound to a woman who will strive to control and manipulate him.

There are a couple issues I have with this situation; 1) The only way you could possibly have an "unexpected pregnancy" is if you used contraception, one of you has had surgical alteration to your reproductive system done, or you ony had oral sex. If you have sex without using contraception of some kind you can expect a pregnancy - biology 101. 2) Unless your salary is approx. $600/month it is not going to take ½ your salary to provide your share of the care for a child. Where did women get this "half" bullshit from? Where did they get the idea that because she owns the body that acts as the incubator for the gestation of the baby, the man has no say in how that pregnancy is handled? If you want the man to carry his share of the load, which he should if he decides to be a parent, you're going to have to give him his share of the rights - all the way across the board. I'm tired of these women that think they can allow themselves to get knocked up and then hold the man responsible for all of it. Bullshit!! If a woman can opt out of parenthood, a man should be able to, as well. A paternity test would be the first thing I asked for with this one. She seems far too eager to get him into that ball & chain.

You're right, but unfortunately he can't make her get one. He can suggest it but it sounds like she wants to keep it. She may even be trying to trap him into a relationship using the kid. A lot of women pull that shit, they play the moralistic card and refuse to abort so they can keep a hook in the guy.

+Sasha Wiellette Yeah. If a woman does that, the guy needs to figure out a way to explain to her how corrupt and insane that is.

He said he gets on with her and stuff. He should give it a go. The pregnancy might be rough with his anxiety and her hormones but what the hell does he have to lose? Bill you got this one all wrong. Soul mate? Did you watch too many Disney movies growing up?

You can almost predict Bill's response after listening for a while. It's never to try and see if you can work things out. It's always cut her loose, how to get outta there

He didnt want a relationship for the 3 years hes known her but now shes pregnant he should force the issue? Supporting the child doesn't always involve having a bad relationship in the same house.

Just two things...1. DNA test to find out it is yours. Because right now you don't even know it is yours, all you have is her word. And she might not even know who the daddy is. So don't pay for another man's child. 2. Tell her you are not financially/ emotionally ready for parenthood. She want's to raise the child, then go for it, but you are out. It is her child, her decision, her cash - but you are OUT. No man shout have to pay a lifetime for one ejaculation.

If it’s his kid that’s pretty fucked up to just bail. What kind of person are you? That kid will grow up even more fucked up wondering why their dad didn’t care enough to be around.

Yeah dude, and moreover it shouldn't always be the males job to provide a condom to. And as the old saying goes... "a moment of pleasure, for a lifetime of regret."

The primitives had it right... Men live in one camp, where they hunt, drink fermented concoctions, experiment with strange jungle plants, and generally tell tall stories, and make great plans. And the women's, well they can have their own camp... where they can braid each others hair, play with arts and crafts, prattle about the days gossip, and generally be domestic.

That's not quite how it was. Even in primitive times, it was more complex. They all lived together and the old people were the managers. People didn't have time to have fun much. Men hunted, protected the tribe from predators and other tribes and made things. Men bonded together as a group in their work. Women gathered food and prepared it, etc. There were actually skilled people in a 'manufacturing place' who made things, like stone tools, that were traded to many tribes far away. Clearly, others places made things to trade with that didn't last for us to see now. People then had the same capable brain we do now.
