Episode Transcript:
Hey, everyone. Ryan here again with another regulation strategy. Again, something that you can use for yourself or with your kids. One of the ones that we use to great effect in our home is calming sounds. We know that the resting heart rate of pregnant women is 80 beats per minute, and so we actually have 80 beats per minute playlists in our home that we play throughout the house.
So that way, it's a regulating cadence for all of us, not just for the kids, but for my wife and I as well. We also will play instrumental hymns or play classical music, so we'll have these calming sounds during the day at nighttime. We all have echo dots in our bedrooms, and so we'll play things from calming sounds.
My wife and I like listening to thunderstorm sounds to fall asleep. Some of my kids like listening to audiobooks, particularly those read with very calming British accents. Those really, really help us stay regulated. So something that is really simple to do, but very easy to do because while it might be happening in the background, your brain still paying attention to it.
And so in play, calming sounds, 80 beats per minute playlists, thunderstorms blowing wind, white noise, any of those kinds of things. Audiobooks read by calming voices. Those are all helpful ways to help us stay regulated and to call.
