New idea: retcon Whittaker's Dr. out of cannon. Give her and Yaz a new show where they open detective agency, bumbling their way through endless humiliating misadventures. Call it TWO FOR TROUBLE. @lillaxxitiv1501

Hello, I'm part of the minority who actually liked it. I went into it very optimistic and hyped to finally see new Doctor Who with new stories especially since my life circumstances have changed since the last airing and setting through Doctor Who live was something very comforting. As for the episode, I think it was very very entertaining with no one scene dragging on and becoming boring. Each scene worked as good setup for what will come and I appreciated the humour they put into the episode, I thought it was all very well done and didn't feel cheap. Dan and Carvinista(?) bounce off eachother very well. Without doing much Dan already established himself as a character with his own motivations, dreams and personality. Chibnall wrote Dan well surprisingly, his personality wasn't just spoken to us through exposition but representated through how he acted and the choices he makes. Dan gets a solid thumbs up from me. Now to Yas and The Doctor. I really liked how there is finally some tension and disagreement between the Doctor and her companions, previously they all just do what she says no questions asked or when they did try to have heart to hearts with the Doctor it was poorly done or very poorly done (eg Graham's cancer scene). The scene where Yas tries to get the Doctor to talk about her worries shows that the relationship between them isn't as equal or as strong or as special as Yas thinks. I also like that Thasmin is nowhere to be seen. As for The Doctor herself, I wasn't entire sold on Jodie Whittaker until the revolution of the daleks earlier this year, this episode was no different and she really did feel like The Doctor. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows with her which is what I didn't like about her in series 11. This episode was rather packed however with a lot happening, so much that it's difficult to remember what happens but that's a symptom of having a set-up episode really. I am also curious to see what the blue man with crystals in his face is. I hated the timeless child concept but if he's going on with it he might as well make it a good story. The stakes were adequately set in this episode. The Flux seems formidable and even though we know The Doctor and earth survive, how will earth survive in a solar system that doesn't exist anymore? How will the planets be returned? How will the monsters be fought off? All good questions to lead you into watching it next time. All in all it's a fantastic episode to me. A solid 8/10.

@@lillaxxitiv1501 Wow, brilliant write-up, thanks for taking the time! It's fascinating how things land so differently for different people. For now, I guess I and the rest of us who got stiffed by these last few years will keep wistfuly watching our old episodes and wait to see if RTD can Gandalf the show a second time. Thanks for that reply.

@@ElJohnerino I didn't necessarily like it, but I can see how people might actually like this one. Traditionally, Chibs tends to be half-way decent with set-up, and then just fails to deliver on the actual promised plot and resolution. Well, this series is basically one big 6-parter episode, and literally everything in this episode is JUST set-up, aside from maybe the dogs. As such, we don't see all his typical failings yet. We have set-up for the 1820 plotline, the Rose station plotline, the sontaran plotline, the claire plotline, the overarching villain plotline, the Antarctica thing plotline maybe, the Tardis issues plotline, and companion relationship plotline. There was uh. A lot. Way way WAY too much stuffed in, but some of those moment were actually kind of nice. And like I said, when sticking only to set-up, Chibs can keep interest. If I actually thought it was possible he could deliver on any of these, I'd probably be excited to see more. Also, to be perfectly honest, I feel like the acting is...slightly better? They actually TRIED for her to act like the Doctor more than normal. It didn't go as well as other doctors, but it was at least an attempt. We see her feel the psychic backlash of millions dying from the Flux, in a moment that felt actually somewhat doctorish.

I like this episode and majority of chibnall era, cause of his interesting take in Doctor Who I dislike his timeless child arc. The reason why I say it’s interesting cause, it’s a bold step, it has that grounded feeling that neither Moffat nor RTD took. While the characters is cardboard, they took a bit depth in series 12 (especially 13th). In series 11 she’s a ten and eleventh knock off, in series 12 however, she starts to be more into her own thing, she’s a flawed, secretive and blind incarnation, she got trick by a godlike being, surrendered the cyberium to cyberman and when stress, her mind don’t know what to do. She’s secretive, she didn’t tell her companions who she is until spyfall. I like this episode, cause it’s epic story, it’s a mishmash of concepts that we’ll explore/uncover in future. Don’t get me wrong, I dislike chibs take on timeless child.

I myself liked it. I can understand why others didn't what with season 12 and 13 but bowlestrek is being really unfair in his judgements because doctor who was ruined for him. For the surprisingly large amount of people that still like it, there are a few reasons why. One reason is because it was generally different to what chibs has done before, he's done something new (maybe to bring people back) but it worked, and I know I'm starting to enjoy DW again. Also, please remember it is just a setup episode, so don't expect it to be perfect. It was done well while not being amazing, it was decent; karvanista was an interesting addition, Dan was amazing, and Jodie really pulled her weight this episode and felt like the doctor. I don't get why people are angry at it being diverse tho, I mean this is the 21st century, equality is everything. I also loved how yaz finally argues with the doctor about something she disagreed with. That happened basically never in DW and it was really interesting to think about what this could lead to. Idrk if this made sense I just brain dumped this comment but yeah. You could at least give chibs another try

@@lillaxxitiv1501 And you are not alone in that opinion. However, the AI are low which would suggest the public, the normies, found it too confusing. That’s not looking good for the following episodes. For me, John Bishop was the best thing in it and he’s a part time actor. Jodie and Mandip the weakest thing. It was fast paced but when you sit down an analysis it they are big holes in the plot. The Tardis barely escapes the Flux but Vinder in his escape shuttle does. The Big Dog multi tasks by tying Yaz and the Doctor down while heading off to save Dan. He succeeds! His fellow canines would have succeeded to if it hadn’t been for the Doctor bringing the Flux at super fast speeds to Earth. It might have been 13th idea to use their spaceships as a barrier but it’s still them that saved Earth not the Doctor. The Flux can destroy planets but not Spaceships? It sets up a lot of questions that still need to be answered. That’s a good hook for fans but the public don’t seem to care. The 2nd episode will determine if this Series will be a success or not.

@@mekonta The opening sequence was total cringe! It’s not a near death experience when it’s played for laughs. Unfortunately, it isn’t funny in the slightest. The dialogue was just awful. Telling the handcuffs “ release!, release!, release!, in that squeaky accent. No laughs, no drama. Then they fly in the air like witches on a broom, then bang, straight into the Tardis and land on a mattress! Cue theme tune and I’m already annoyed! Whittaker and Gill art without doubt the worse Tardis Team ever. Dan was good and so was most of the cast. The main villain ( Crystal guy) going for the Red Skull in Infinity War was a misstep though. He’s a pantomime villain. The Flux! Is it just a storm or an entity with a mind? It must be the latter if it can change direction and chase the Tardis. It can destroy Planets but not the Dog Spaceships. The Doctor comes up with the idea to use their ships as a shield. The Dogs have all of this advanced technology but don’t realise this. However, it was the Doctor that brought the Flux to them so quickly. Vinder escape in his lifeboat and survives but the Tardis is badly damaged and struggles to out run it. I’ve got a feeling we will get no explanation for this. Dan’s Dog knows about the Flux but the Doctor doesn’t. Despite the fact they have been battling each other in another adventure. He deals with her and then sets off to save Dan. The memory loss thing doesn’t cover this. How can she be unaware that parts of the Universe near by are being destroyed? The Tardis instruments don’t pick it up. It makes her the most ineffectual and the stupidest Doctor ever. The main problem with it is that is aimed solely at fans. It just jumps from clip to clip and hopes the audience sticks with it. The ordinary Joe, never having seen a Weeping Angel or a Sontaran would be completely lost. The AI figures being the lowest for 15 years confirm that. Being fast paced, giving the viewer no time to think doesn’t make it a good episode. It’s a Chibnall Mystery Box. He hopes that people will tune in to find out the answers. Fans will but I doubt many of the general public will. The viewing figures for episodes 2 & 3 are going to be interesting but they never beat the opening episode of a new Series. Series 11& 12 are dull and boring. The Witchfinders could have been very good but it has no budget. Even the King doesn’t get a horse! There isn’t one story that I would want to rewatch. That’s why I haven’t bought the Boxsets. I’ve got everything from 63-17 but I can’t buy something that I have no intention of rewatching.

Everything went in chronological order besides the time jump differences. 4 or more parts to each story, but it all made sense AS YOU WATCH IT and not only made sense later on. Story telling does not need this kind of confusion. I can accept confusing in the beginning of the episode. Moffat did that with Matt Smith with the introduction and annihilation of the Silence. But not confusion lasting all through multiple episodes. Clearly he is rushing things to get out of dodge fast.

Thank you for committing yourself to watching this so we don’t have to. I had the unfortunate experience of thinking they were going to do something wonderful with a woman doctor (with the potential from the past epis with female time lords) and buying the first season unseen😩 Squeaked my way through it thinking “well it can’t get any worse than this”-the rest is history for all of us. I can’t wait for this season to be history so we can bury it. Had to laugh when I saw 4 & 5 uploaded and realized you were going to watch these for us so here I go catching up with your uploads step 1. Cheers til it’s over🥂 (Wtw Chibs really had to steal a weeping angel in an attempt to ruin those too?)

The stupid space dogs make absolutely no sense. How does the pair-bond system work? Is each dog arbitrarily allocated a human being? What about families? Are family members to be separated, so that the dogs would separate children from parents, wives from husbands, etc.? Apparently, it's one dog per ship for each human being on the planet. Why are the dogs paired with human beings in the first place? They don't seem to have any history with Earth, and if they're the sworn guardians of the human race, why didn't they show up during any of the alien invasions in the 21st century (or earlier)? Why didn't they go after the planet when the Daleks moved it halfway across the universe? Why didn't they intervene when the Master took over the planet during the Year That Never Was? Or they did not consider any of those alien invasions a big enough threat to the human race? Aside from the obvious fact that they hadn't been created, their introduction just "raises too many questions", to quote Batman from Batman Forever.

It was on here in Australia last week and I tried to watch it when it came on repeat. Our ABC has several Chanel’s and an alternate Chanel was offering a repeat of the Dr.Who Let’s kill Hitler episode. The New Who naturally starting before the other but running together time wise. Well I gave up the New Who and watched the old Who with Matt. It’s just no comparison. Just a marvellous sci-fi episode. New Who is struggling. Too many plot holes, rip offs, characters, deaths!, in the thirty odd minutes I watched. Jodie is not a good actress and continually, when she’s amazed, confused, actually almost anything has the annoying habit of going around with her mouth open and waving , and pointing, her ‘vibrator’ at any chance she can..at anything. I have this wonderful dream that she will suddenly regenerate and David or Matt will reappear. These are the only two who can re-energise and return Dr.Who to it’s former glory.. All my opinion though ..🤗👵

As the Managing Editor of Films In Review, the oldest (1909) and most prestigeous name in film journals, my opinion is the show is exactly what someone would expect with a season opener which managed the unenviable score of getting the lowest season opening viewer numbers in the show's history. Never before has the show been so savaged by its own diehard fans who are walking away in record numbers, angry and disgusted at the terrible stories, horrendously poor dialogue, relentless socio-political pop culture flavor of the month intolerably superior-minded and snide virtue signaling and the worst acting in the entire program's long history. Whittaker is so unlikable in the role to all but angry psychopaths that the BBC has taken her picture off most of the licensing. The "respect and care for anyone but straight white men who caused all the pain in the world" messaging, sometimes subtle and sometimes overbearing, is no longer a weird extremist talking point plaything for neon-green-haired vacuous schoolyard discussion; the intolerant vanity of brainwashed white self-hatred is driving normal, everyday people not just off the show, but has created a cottage industry of entertaining KZitem channels devoted to venting audience frustrations by dumping on the people who ruined their favorite television program. The direction of the show is as wrong in direction as the viewer numbers are factually vanishing. This once-brilliant show in its heyday and pretty good sometimes in the reboot form is now a total and complete disaster. Just ask the former many millions of disgusted viewers who are no longer watching.

Nope, he says he and the doctor have fought across the stars since the dawn of time, so expect another retcon thing that was always there even though Chibnall literally just made it up. I guess half a century worth of rich source material just wasn't enough for Chibs to work with. he had to create an entirely new mythology that accounts for the majority of the doctors existence that we never saw on screen before.
