I must admit that I've always felt the Variations felt out of place with the rest of Durufle's "Prelude, Adagio, et Choral varie sur le theme du Veni Creator," but in the context of alternatim - of which we know that Duruflé used these variations so - they are perfect. My thanks to members of my dear Schola from St. Lawrence for singing the verses of the Veni Creator. Text and translations are found at the bottom of the description.

This particular recording is special for me in that it is one of the last times I will regularly play on this great organ in Bales Recital Hall. With my departure from school and plunging deep into the professional life of Catholic Sacred Music, it serves as an invocation of the Holy Spirit in transition from one chapter of life to the next. My family is growing and my secondary vocation of music (primary being husband and father) is finding itself in the Mass more than in the concert hall, with much more life and fulfillment being derived from the former, but I will continue to work on recording projects to serve the mission of the Church and of the soul's need for beauty as the opportunities arise.
