So my Aunt was obsessed with The Nightmare Before Christmas and we were planning a trip to go in October just to see Jack Skeleton, sadly she passed away before we could go. We'd gotten a picture of her to hold when we met Jack, and when we got there we were all in tears. Jack quickly understood what was going on so he took us a little past the sign to have a nice conversation, so absolutely the characters don't mind if you cry, I promise.

I only recently started to meet characters, but by far the best interaction I had was with Elena of Avalor. I asked her if I could speak Spanish with her, and when she agreed I told her how happy I was that I was finally able to speak talk to a princess in my native language. She was an absolute sweetheart! I was absolutely beaming when I left. Character meets are always so much better when you interact!

I'll never forget two of my favorite character experiences: when I was kid- 8 or 9- I was waiting to see Pluto and these people cut in front of my mom and I; I turned to my mom and said "Why didn't they wait their turn" and then the next thing I know Pluto grabs me and pulls me to the front of the line. 2nd experience was last year when I nearly cried meeting Captain Hook, he's my favorite villain and my life long Disney crush- he was so sweet to me.

I'm 18 and I still love meeting characters. My family thinks it's weird, but I just love being able to shake hands with the most famous mouse on the planet, have a kooky conversation with the Mad Hatter and shudder in terror meeting Darth Vader (yes, it is scary!). Meeting a character is one of the highlights of any trip to Disneyland or the other parks.

This is a huge relief! I just learned that Rey will be arriving in Disneyland in May and I am legitimately concerned about tearing up or even crying when I meet her. You don't know how happy and relieved I am to know that if that does happen, no one on or off stage is going to feel uncomfortable or tease me if that happens. Not that I really thought that would happen, but I'm glad to have confirmation.

it's way more fun to meet characters as an adult. you get more interaction as an adult compared to little kids, little kids are often shy and heres a tip i like to tell people. share a fun fact about yourself with the character and they will gesture an answer or they will tell you something from their perspective. it's another way to interact and i do it all the time :)

I was a lot more confident in meeting them and knowing what was okay and not okay to do. Some of my favorite memories from that trip were meeting the characters and having fun interactions with them and I have your videos to thank for that. I think your videos are super helpful for anyone, whether they're about to go on a Disney trip for their first time or their 100th time. It's interesting to see the point of view from a former cast member. I really enjoy and appreciate these videos!

I just got back from two weeks at WDW, and Pluto gave my mum a fright on our first day! XD The Scene: We were sitting on a bench in Main Street USA near the park entrance/Chamber of Commerce area and she was studying the park map. I saw Pluto come round the corner (I'm guessing he was on his way to his Character Meet & Greet), he spotted my mum wasn't paying attention to anything around her, and he put his finger to his lips as if to say 'shh' to me. He crept up on her side, and stood staring at my mum just a few inches from her face (she was too engrossed in the map to notice anything), I was sat on her other side trying not to laugh. When she finally looked up, she screamed and let out an expleive. Thankfully there were no little kiddies around to hear her swear, but I was in stitches for a good ten minutes afterwards :D She started laughing once she realised who had startled her and her heart rate returned to normal. But for the rest of our holiday, she affectionately referred to Pluto as the 'sneaky yellow b*st*rd' XD

Just an FYI for your followers....Disney's Memory Maker is the package that you can buy to receive all of the photos taken by Photopass photographers during your trip. The cost is, currently, $169 if purchased in advance. And, you no longer receive a CD to get all of your pictures...it is digital download only. I hope that helps! :-) And...I've done all kinds of meet and greets in the parks. From having my toddler daughter crying in fear, my preschool age son wanting nothing to do with them, ME in tears as my daughter as a preschooler running into Cinderella's arms, my "too cool for anything else" teenagers turning into kids when they see Mickey, to groups of women on "adult only" trips having fun with them. It's all part of the Disney experience!

I went as a 'civilian' to the theme park I work at, and saw amazing interactions between adult fans and the characters even if they didn't share a common language. This visit I collected autographs from all characters, fur or no fur. I asked for a nice message from both types, and all the characters I asked delivered! The messages are adorable and so on point. It was a good ice breaker, I could just call out their name when they were not occupied with toddlers and ask for an autograph. I talked to them while they signed their names and asked for a hug from the fur characters afterwards.

HI! Here again. XD I have gotten far more ADULTS that want to take a picture with me than kids. (I wish I could have taken a few pictures to keep myself, but my handler was always taking the pictures for them, or keeping me from dying. XD ) Not only is this perfectly fine, if you ever need to feel better, I highly suggest it! (I've never been a speaking character. This coming from someone who was more trained in pantomime.) I've had a lot of sucess dealing with people who were nervous - adults and kids alike. The adults are almost always the ones who truly love it - especially if it's an older character their kids may not know much about. Any REAL character preformer drives to make someone's day just a little bit better, and it makes our own day when we see someone who clearly was dragged out where they would probably not want to be, suddenly light up. This happened several times to me. Most notable in a comic convention I was working at. The woman clearly didn't care, nor was she interested in what was going on. She saw an old, retired, character (me) and she spent a long time just interacting. Since I've retired from the zoo I worked at, I have my own 'mascot', if you will; Balahat the Traveling Tiger. (I naturally still abide by the strict rules of character preformers) I get asked to go to some street festivals in my area, and it's still true. Everyone loves meeting a walking animal! Just a few years ago, I was walking around, meeting kids and adults - like you do! And I felt a tap on my shoulder. Apparently this guy had been following me around, watching me play around with kids, and some parents and he'd wanted to take a picture too. (my handler was, thankfully, aware of, what amounted to a stalker following us, and later told me he was following me for half an hour before coming up.) He said hi, asked what my 'name' was ( I pointed to my ID tags around my neck) asked for a picture, and as my handler took it, he about burst into tears hugging me. He told a long story, but what it amounted to was he had been left by his long time girl friend. He bought the tickets months ago and only just decided (on the last day) that he would even go on his own. Now I'm a pretty tall guy, and I'm used to people 'venting' to my character (I'm serious - people tell you all kinds of things to a bipedal animal. it's weird) but this guy's story hit me like no one else's for some reason. When he backed up I pat his back, fist bumped him and a thumbs up. He looked really happy when he left. Meeting kids is always fun! But Meeting adults is amazing. Like you said, it's something we LOVE to do. (I could easily make a whole essay. XD )

oh man, when I went to Disney land in Paris with my parents and sibblings I remember being scared of all of the furr-characters... especially Pluto :D we still had a good time and I would just wave and they would wave back at me, which already made my day. I was too scared to get any closer and I'm really glad my parents didn't force me to get any closer. I think if I ever go back (which I will but I'll have to save up to get a longer stay) I will probably still be a bit scared of them... they're just so huge for chipmunks and mice and dogs, then again their big hearts have to fit somewhere!

i had pretty much all these experiences in my trip to Disney World last summer! I didn't get to do a ton of meet-and-greets, but the ones i did were a terrific experience! 1) my grandma an i were the the only "adults" in a sea of 3 - 6 year-olds in line to see Cinderella and Rapunzel. Both princesses were super sweet, and didn't bat an eye when we stepped up to meet them! i do get anxiety when it comes to talking to people, so i was a bit nervous about what to say, but Rapunzel made me feel so at ease! it was so easy to talk to her, and the photopass people got some great shots with both their cameras AND mine of us laughing and joking around together! another great video and topic SirWillow!

Lighting will likely surprise you as it's shot in a 15x15 office- a 4-bulb flourescent light fixture, one 85W Flourescent photo light with white umbrella to soften it a bit, and an open window to the street off to my left side letting in sunlight, which is the brightness on that side. happened to catch a time when the sunlight was coming in wonderfully, which in our neck of the woods is often difficult to do. :-)

Hi, SirWillow. I have a question. Well, it's really my husband's question. He absolutely loves Disney, so do I, and we're planning our first Disney trip together for our daughter's first birthday next year. His favorite Princesses are Belle, Ariel, Jasmine, and Mulan. He was wondering if it was okay for men to hug the Princesses or not, or even just a one armed hug. Thanks.
@SirWillow
7 жыл бұрын
+Diamond Rose I would suggest that rather than go for the hug he does a handshake. Or even better yet since they are princesses if you took one hand and raise it up as if to kiss it as you would do with a real princess. And then when he poses they will probably have him hold his arm out so they can take his arm and post very gentlemanly like. That tends to work well for everybody

What about displays of affection?? when should I hug/kiss/shake hands/bow to the characters?
@SirWillow
7 жыл бұрын
cappuyol generally if you're not a little kid then hugging and kissing characters is probably not a real good idea. You can get a bit uncomfortable. Shaking hands is always appropriate as is bowing to the princesses
@SirWillow
7 жыл бұрын
let me clarify - hugging depends upon the character. It's always ok to hug Pooh. But if you're an adult guy then hugging the princesses may not necessarily be a real good idea. essentially think about how that character would feel about somebody doing that and play it respectfully and cautiously and you should be fine.

The characters seemed to enjoy the interactions and being an adult female who seems younger may have helped ease a tiny bit of discomfort. Still, I should have considered their feelings more

I can't speak for Disney world, but in Disneyland Paris some characters encourage you to kiss them! I met a Mickey who kept stealing kisses from me, and a Photo Pass photographer who told my friend and I to kiss Pooh. The cultural differences between parks are quite interesting

Well, one of 'em found a way not to. I met Snow White back in '14 (The last time I was at Disney) and the very first thing I did was ask her for a hug. Her response was, and I quote "Oh, I couldn't possibly do that. It would make my prince and the dwarves very jealous. And I am the fairest one of all".

I can remember the first time I ever went and met Aladdin & Jasmine, we (my Brother and I) shook their LEFT hand and explained the "Scouting" significance of the "Left-Handed" shake - It means TRUST. Aladdin and Jasmine were really interested in the history of it and claimed they would teach the guards and Sultan. If we saw them in the park and met them they made sure they shook our Left Hand. Is that a normal thing?

Would being knowledgeable in sign language be beneficial to a possible future job at Disney? I want to try out when I am older as Belle, and I really think with my love for disney, asl ability, and my appearance I could do it make the cut
@SirWillow
7 жыл бұрын
+theBestMadi while it's nice to have, ASL wouldn't be a determining factor in whether you get a role as a character. The first things are going to look at are height, weight, complexion, General appearance. Then you have an audition to test out your animation, personality and other things like that. It's a very involved process to become a character. Most people I know had to go through several auditions before getting a role as a face character.

@SirWillow

Robert Rothenburgh you can visit the photo pass.com website anytime even before your trip. I'd suggest looking it over and see how it is. It changes from time to time and it's not the same as when I used to work there seven years ago. So it's best to kind of explore on your own and see what they have. They can always give you help at the park too

I have two questions: Has Disney ever approached you about you content? You say a lot about Disney and I feel at some point someone would approach you about it. Do I even need a camera with Disney offering the PhotoPass option everywhere?
@SirWillow
7 жыл бұрын
+Nathan Lamberth no reason for Disney to approach me really. I'm a small fry who isn't defaming them or giving away any trade secrets and I don't affect their bottom line in any way positive or negative. They really don't do anything much even for the big tome bloggers either. It's free advertising for them. :-) And yes in would still bring a camera Photo Pass isn't everywhere or with very character. There will be plenty of moments you will want to capture that they aren't available for. But the ones that they are you can let them shoot away.

@SirWillow
7 жыл бұрын
+cotton1983 you bet they do since they took the pictures and they're of their characters. If you buy a photo pass CD they share the copyright with you but you can't do anything with it that would make money or do anything that would defame the Disney characters in anyway. They still own copyright on them

Would it be out of line to ask a character, for a date to "cast connections"?
@SirWillow

A character? yeah, it would. Even a regular cast member is going to look at you odd. Cast Connection (assuming you mean the cast store) is meant only for cast and their occasional guest- normally family or close friends only.

But don't some DL characters walk around without an attendant
@SirWillow
4 жыл бұрын
You may not see the attendant while they are walking around, but they are there and nearby. Disneyland doesn't have all of them stuck in locations like Walt Disney World does, but there are attendants even when they are walking around to make sure that everything goes smooth and nothing unexpected happens. I could show you footage from our trip last October that I show when we were meeting some of those characters and point out the attendants that are floating around on teh fringes.
