Metabolism (pronounced: meh-TAB-uh-Liz-um) is the chemical reactions in the body's cells that change food into energy. Our bodies need this energy to do everything from moving to thinking to growing. Specific proteins in the body control the chemical reactions of metabolism.
REASONS FOR SLOW METABOLISM -
1. Crash diets (people don't eat enough food, kill themself from hunger)
2. Exercise (going to the gym losing weight & doing extreme exercise)
3. Age factor (till 18 it is high, til 30's relatively high but till 40's it slows down)
4. Menopause (mid 40's or early 50's)
5. Pcod, thyroids (metabolic disorders)
6. Weather fluctuation (in winters metabolism is high coz we workout to keep ourselves warm)
IDENTIFY BROKER METABOLISM -
1. Jump of 1-2kgs overnight (after eating junk food last night)
2. Lot of cravings
3. Low body muscle mass (especially males who have thin legs, arms but have belly fat)(might have fatty liver coz they are interrelated)
4. Dark patches on the underarm or neck
5. Feeling sleepy after meals
6. Getting irritated easily
HOW TO FIX BROKEN METABOLISM -
1. Diet (break the pattern of your diet) (take 2 mid meals: 1st meal between breakfast and lunch; 2nd meal between lunch and dinner) (followed by 4 mini-meals like having stimulus i.e., green tea, green coffee)
2. Exercise No overexertion
(If you have pcod or high testosterone level then you should not do excess strength training & if you have thyroid or stress then you don't have to do over cardio)
3. Proper sleep (avoid Bluelight before sleeping)
4. Include mobility throughout the day
5. Eat seasonal fruits
6. Metabolic boosters (like cinnamon, bay leaf, amla juice, wheatgrass powder)
7. Reduce stress level (practice gratitude, feel happy)
8. Breathing exercises (kapalabhati, anulom vilom)
