After bailing out on Mt May recently due to not feeling well. It was time to finally get down and tick it off the list. Iwas a little anxious going on but i knew i could do this but after all I've done harder and more difficult stuff so i knew i could do this. There's only so much you can take on from watching other people's videos, so I had some idea of what I was getting into before I set but I didn't realise just how steep it is.
Lots of loose rock and gravel as you follow the trail that is reasonably solid most off the time, but it was after the saddle and heading to the summit of the south peak when I lost the trail at a vertical rock face. After following what turned out to be an animal trail for a bit, I realised I'd gone the wrong way and had gone a good distance off the trail.
After taking a few minutes to calm my anxiety and a quick risk assessment of the best way to get back on course. I decided instead of back taking the way I came, I was going to go straight up and bush bash and climb to get back to the trail as I knew I was directly below where I should have been. After about 10-15 minutes, I was back on track again and headed to the summit.
Some great views of the scenic rim as you go up and an amazing view of Mt Barney as you head back down the other side. All up it took me just under 5 hours and around 7km. I needed a good challenge to help clear my mind and I got i what I wanted along with a great cardio workout.
