I like the reinforcement you did but you should have done it underneath

But then how would people see my beautiful welds? Haha. Yeah, that’s a good point, didn’t even think to put them underneath.

@@noboltsleftbehind I ain’t knocking it. It looked good. Just think it would almost blend in. Could even add a small sized length of angle iron under there.

That cross shaped reinforcement looks very good to me. Seems solid!

I had issues stuffing the large plugs through my firewall also on the 69. The fly by wire gas pedal I had to completely disassemble the plug and remove all the pins to get it through! Good job!

That's a good way to do it especially to preserve your fiberglass firewall.

The wiring by the firewall you pinted too is the engine gauge feed and the other ones is for the hood turn signal wiring, you can also turn the intake around so you dont run long piping for the intake. I put a 5.0 in my 68 mustang
@noboltsleftbehind

Ah, good to know about the wiring, thanks. Tell me more about the intake, do you mean turn the bend around by the throttle body to point toward the firewall or turn the entire thing around so it runs down the driver side?
@walterabarca5786

@noboltsleftbehind well you don't really need the bend, you can eliminate it and turn the whole intake to the driver side

Why did you just plate that brace underneath (on the bottom)? What you did will be strong but now you have a spot or spots for water to sit, drill some small holes in the bottom/center of the X so it can drain. I do believe that some DOM tubing would provide the same amount of energy transfer as those stamped pieces.

Good call on the holes, I’ll have to do that. I didn’t think about reinforcing from the bottom, I guess my instinct was to weld supports on the topside where the sides turned up, sort of boxing it in.

What are you going to do about the pats system? How is the ecm going to read the key? Or you going to put an explorer column in it

My donor Explorer was a 1996, which was before Ford added PATS to the PCM (from my research, it was added mid-1997). I would like to figure out a way to connect and write to the PCM however and I think I may have found a way to do it. I’m still researching but I’ll definitely post a video on how it works out.

I have a 67 Mustang that I bought and it has a Mustang 2010 4.0L Engine and transmission in it, it doesn't have the ECU but it has the engine harness and all that seems to be connected, If I buy and connect the right ECU for it what would be required more to make it fire up and work?
@noboltsleftbehind

You’ll need a high pressure fuel pump for sure, and possibly a second fuel line for return if it’s not a returnless system. ECUs usually only need 12v power, 12v ignition, and ground to run. Since yours is a later model one it will probably need to have the security lock removed, I know Ford started this with the 1997 model year of Explorer engines, I’m sure the 4.0s have something similar.

What kind of lock are we talking about? an ECU lock? @@noboltsleftbehind
@noboltsleftbehind

@@ryantaccone6285 Like a software lock in the ECU, one that I think requires a matched ignition key. Ford calls it PATS for the Explorer ECUs of my donor's generation, not sure about your Mustang one.

The best way is to just drop a comment right here on youtube! Under whichever video is most relevant to the question. That way other people can see it and get help with their projects too.

How much hood clearance do you think there will be?

By my calculations it’s gonna be close but I think it should fit. I’m concerned most about the power steering reservoir and I’m still not sure how I’ll plumb the air intake.

Fuel injection, 8.8 rear end, and overdrive transmission are the reasons I went with the Explorer swap. 210 is just a starting point 😉
