For anyone doing this swap...I wanted to post this info in case it may help someone I’m the future (I couldn’t find anything definitive on this after lots of searching so I took a chance) - I ended up using the jdm throttle body. I did get an error code upon first startup (P2176). I went through a throttle body relearn procedure (search for it - believe it was when car cold, turn key to on position for a few seconds then start car and hold RPMs at 3k until coolant fans turn on - release peddle and let car idle for a bit (should now idle correctly without idle hunting) then turn car off). Once ecu learns new TB - clear ecu codes (may need to clear codes again at next startup - I got different TB codes after clearing the P2176 code on next startup and cleared those as well). After performing these steps - my jdm throttle body has been working flawlessly. Car is 2006 Civic LX and swapped in a jdm r18a motor.

It’s been running great - I’ve probably put at least 15-20k miles on jdm motor since swap. No issues or codes with jdm throttle body either.

Any tips, got motor in today, started and it’s idling around 1k then seems to almost miss? I swapped throttle body to US. Haven’t driven yet, no codes yet. Maybe it’ll clear up but wasn’t sure if you ran into something similar?

So I have a manual car getting an auto engine and putting it in my manual car would I have to do something with the ecu or is it the same?

no just use the ecu thats in your car. change over the flexplate to a flywheel from the old engine use the bolts from the flywheel and you are good to go.

My daughters 08 civic is leaking coolant through the block. I see the jdm engines available online. Do they have the same issue with porosity in the blocks?

i am not sure I do know that is a very common issue with the R18 engines tho...

Make sure your new engine is a late 09 or 2010. All others may have the defect. I have an 08 cicic 225.000 so far no leak.

@@shawnh9677 okay so if I have a complete manual car right now, I shouldn’t need to buy anything new correct?
