Ann Blyth has the most beautiful skin that I've ever seen on a human being. Thanks to this video I learned that Ann was with Joan on Oscar night when she won. Joan was a survivor in an industry that worships youth and that is an amazing feat. I'm glad that Ann is still alive today as I post this message. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS WONDERFUL VIDEO !

Well, the American Film Institute qualified her as the tenth biggest female star of all time. And Joan is one of the actresses that most influenced the new generations. Not only in the United States, also around the world. In Spain, where I am from, she is a very visible actress in the new genres of our screens. And his eyebrows, his shoulder pads, his hairstyles, his character, his look have been influenced by popular culture worldwide. From actors to clothing designers. That is, she is an actress very well qualified and respected by the world. They do not even remember that "Mommie Dearest" shit anymore.

It is refreshing to hear someone say something nice about her. Who knows if Joan was a terrible mother. We only get one side of the story. Anyway, I wouldn't say she was underrated. She was a huge star at one time. But like almost all women of the time, the roles dried up when she reached a certain age. It's a shame her last film was called Trog and was basically just camp sci-fi.

It's very easy to hate Joan Crawford because of what was written in that "Mommie Dearest" book. There's also been other things written about her that wasn't very kind either. But when a lady like Ann Blyth, who is so wholesome, real, and genuine, talks like this about her, I'm inclined to believe her. I'm starting to think that Christina Crawford did a terrible thing by writing that book, whether true or not. You don't air your personal dirty linen in public.

Almost every parent I knew in the 50s would today be called abusive. Children were not coddled and catered to, it wasn't the norm. So true, I was born in 1962 in Australia, me, my siblings and most kids in my neighbourhood were regularly paddled with wooden spoons, electrical cords or hairbrushes for transgressions, it was the norm. I remember once my father (drunkenly) slapping my sister in a Restraunt because she said “arks” instead of “ask”!. We were all horrified and angry at him, and I don’t agree with corporal punishment now, but I think you have to cut a little slack to parents who were just giving as they got.

I think that as a child something deeply hurt her and that hurt was brought into adulthood and she may have put it on others, even those she loved, without meaning to .I don't place, but perhaps a flawed place. She probably had unresolved ptsd. She seems like a good, even kind person who was anguished about something. And as she was an artist she had a higher chance of being bipolar. These disorders can cause even good people to behave abnormal at times. There's a difference between an evil person and a mentally ill one who's good but needs help. She deserve more sympathy, respect and forgiveness from her daughter Christina . Never the less Joan Crawford was one of the best movie stars in the world ever, no actress today can touch her, not even one. Kate Winslet who did the Mildred Pierce remake,is a great talent and I think on of the few " real" movie stars of today ,even she who's a super great actress, pales a little bit ,next to the super great Miss Crawford.

Cathy and Cindy are considerably younger than Christina, lived with Joan at a happy and secure time in her life with Pepsi Cola exec Al Steele which put Joan back in the public eye enjoying the attention she craved due to her relationship with Pepsi Cola and the aftermath of Baby Jane resulting in filmwork Strait-Jacket, I Saw What You DId, Berserk and numerous tv appearances on talk and variety shows and Night Gallery where she was directed by a young Steven Spielberg. The key phrase is: " The Joan I knew " Narrcists are nice to ppl they don't have control over. Doesn't make her a bad person. She just had some issues that she took out on her 1st adopted children. People forget that joan has a hard hard start in life. It's understandable that she had issues

@ValleyoftheRogue to be fair Joan always looked like she stole from the cookie jar which is why she was so "private" about her life because eyes dont lie even when you are lying so I believe Christiana and Chris all the way.

The Women was the first BITCH role Joan played, and the studio didn't want her to do it because they thought her fans would hate it.... they loved it.

Joan Crawford will always be a fascinating actress and person. I don't think her reputation is tarnished at all by "Mommie Dearest". It only carried her to further prominence in film history. I happened to love that film and believe most of it was true; after all she was an alcoholic and needed therapy, but in those days nobody could get help for these personal problems, so she took it out on her oldest daughter most of all.

0:40 I love the glare that Joan summoned up after the slap and rising to her feet to stand her ground and let Veda know the days of abusing mommy were over. "Get out of this house before I kill you!"

Lots of things in her childhood weren't so great. Perhaps it all affected her later in her life. That aside she was a very good actress. She was professional and memorized her lines and knew the other actors lines. What has happened to acting today? Its certainly not as it were. Not so much emotion.

We have to remember that people are not simple but complex. Its very possible that they can be extremely talented and loving in public but a monster in private. If Christina's account was true, it doesn't negate the fact that Joan was one of the best actresses of all time and her talent doesn't negate the fact that she may have been abusive. To automatically Christina's pain is to victimize her all over again.

@VeggieChick77 Joan was a fantastic actress, no doubt about it and she loved entertaining audiences and her fans. Eventually fame and personal problems drove her in a different direction, but can anyone really come from such fame and leave unscathed? Putting personal issues of hers aside Joan really embodied being an actress. Most performers are two people anyways, the Movie Star and the Reality. As just a movie star, Joan is one of the great icons of the golden age.

Joan was not classically trained in acting and badly envied the biggest female star of her time, norma shearer. Crawford the woman disappeared and she became the "movie star" joan literally 24-7, even talking different, saying daaarling all the time. It's as if she wanted to bury the young teen who started out as a zigfried girl. She was odd to people in the industry and could be difficult to deal with. If you delve into her homelife as a child growing up super poor and with an abusive mother, it probably wouldn't be hard to assume she had issues.

Todd Peucker Agreed with everything except the part about being odd and difficult to work with. When she was old and drinking a lot, that may have been true, but almost everyone she worked with - and she worked steadily for thirty some years - talked about liking and respecting her. She was always on time, always know her lines, and always looked perfect. She also went to the trouble of learning the names and stories if every technical or behind the scenes person she ever worked with. Everyone got a small gift or Christmas card from her each year and she remembered their kids names and birthdays, etc. And when her friend and frequent co-star Billy Haines was fired and blacklisted by Hollywood for being gay, Joan hired him to redo her house and made sure he always had work as an interior decorator. And the real deal actors and actresses she worked with liked her too. Myrna Loy, who was very private and didn't make public statements, stood up for Joan and told the world how horrible Christina was when they both worked together on stage: although she had very little acting experience except for a few jobs her mother had gotten her, Christina was a spoiled, entitled diva and the entire cast and crew hated her.

Joey Mama joan was obsessed with fame and her image in Hollywood. She meticulously treated set workers and fellow actors well so they would see her and talk about her as a great person. However joan was a alcoholic narcissist perfectionist that had deep mental scars from her mother and abusive biological father who left the family early in her childhood. She married Fairbanks Jr. To further her career, she married Franchone Tone to spite Bette Davis and later married the president of PepsiCo for money. She couldn't have kids and was refused lawful adoption by most agencies so she bought her kids from the nefarious Georgia Tann in Tennessee who was later found to have even kidnapped children and sell them out of state. Joan first son was tracked down and returned due to a paper trail. Afterwards, the second Christopher and her twin girls paperwork were destroyed when she purchased them. Of course they were for show and whenever she newly married they were promptly sent off to separate boarding schools (Christopher and Christina). She claimed to support her brother but coworkers of his said he lived paycheck to paycheck as a hotel clerk and never talked about joan. Left the twins 150k of her 2.5million estate and her two oldest nothing. The rest went to charity to maintain that image even after death. She was the classic case of two lives, the public one that she carefully crafted and the private one that was a nuisance to her that she couldn't be bothered with. She was a fairly vile woman...Not quite to the level of Lana Turner but close. However, people like that were common in Hollywood in that day and age.
