Traveling is not only discovering new places, but also meeting people and experiencing unforgettable adventures. Such events took place during the following days on the Jordan Trail. Thanks to "accidental" meetings, I managed to solve many problems, as well as discover amazing monuments and flavors of Jordanian cuisine.
Jordan Trail day 17
Stage: Faqu'a - Al-Karak
Distance: 34km
Total distance: 430km
Today was a nice change for me after yesterday's fight with the gorge. After a quiet night in the shepherd's tent, I set out on the trail early in the morning. I hadn't even walked a kilometer before I was sitting in the field with two more shepherds drinking tea. Today there were many such teas and refreshments, and yet I managed to walk quite a distance and visit interesting places. The route was very easy, there were almost no elevation gains, and besides, the trail led mainly along roads, mostly asphalt. Also, it was much cooler than the last few days. It made me realize that the last sections were really difficult, and the Jordan Trail is not easy. I found a very cheap hotel in Al-Karak so I could tidy up. I also need to find a shoemaker to fix my shoe. I have all day tomorrow because I'll be exploring the castle tomorrow and I don't want to go hiking in the middle of the day. So I'm going to use this day to run some errands.
I also wandered around the city a bit, and of course new experiences awaited me. As I was walking past the hair salon, I heard loud singing. It turned out to be a wedding party. In the Muslim tradition, men play separately from women, so I could see the men's part of the wedding having fun. As I watched these expressions of joy, one of the party people named Amer approached me and spoke. Word for word I was invited to a gala dinner in a restaurant. He fed me so much I can barely walk. The food was delicious and the company was very nice.
It's another day in Jordan that surprised me so positively. Every day something interesting happens to me, every day I meet wonderful people. This is not an ordinary hike, it's a journey where I experience situations that I never even dreamed of. My gratitude is immense.

Jordan Trail day 18
Stage: Faqu'a - Al-Karak
Distance: about 15 km around the city but not included in the total calculation
Total distance: 430km
I slept soundly and long that night, and when I woke up, I went to the front desk to extend my stay for another day. Unfortunately, it turned out that all rooms are already booked. I looked through the offers of all the hotels in the area, but the situation repeated itself. I didn't want to stay on the street so I called a friend I met at a wedding to ask if he knew of a hotel where I could stay. It turned out that he did not know, but in half an hour he was at my place. We went to breakfast and then he went to take me to the apartment of his cousins who are currently abroad. I had the apartment all to myself and my good friend went to work. I decided to visit the Crusader castle Al-Karak, which made a great impression on me. I had a lot of time, so I went into every nook and cranny and admired how this fortress was built with a flourish.
After seeing everything, I went to find a shoemaker to fix my shoe. I managed to do it very quickly, and the shoemaker did it quickly and professionally. The next point of the day was to buy new socks, because while I was sleeping in the tent, my dog stole one from me. It wasn't easy because most of the socks were made of elastane, which is not a good material for a long hike. Finally, I managed to find cotton ones in one of the stores.
Once I had done my shopping, I took my time strolling around the city, watching the street life. Lots of stalls, talks, meetings and noise completely sucked me in. I walked around like this for several hours, sometimes sitting on a wall, sometimes talking to the locals or drinking coffee.
In the end, I treated myself to a visit to the hairdresser. I asked for a beard and mustache cut and nose hair removal 😅 It hurt a bit but the experience was interesting
