I just think it needs to be more uniform - not necessarily saying all 50 states need to treat 17 year olds as adults but rather laws within the state. If you’re an adult at 17 for the purposes of criminal charges then treat 17 year olds as adults at all times. That means they cannot be truant, they can sign contracts, they can buy a pack of cigarettes, they can leave home, etc…. It’s one or the other. I just don’t like systems where it’s setup as “you’re this but only if conditions A, B, & C are met otherwise you’re a minor under conditions D-Z (Excluding H, J, L & Q)”

Hopefully it will motivate him to completely change his way, but considering the crime I don't have a lot of faith. Stats show he will do something additionally violent in the future. Since it's obvious his parents/family aren't there to make him do better. Habits are hard to break. Judge Stevens is spot on. People are becoming fed up with young kids doing things because they believe themselves untouchable. It doesn't help when parents haven't done a better job teaching their kids to be respectful of life and property of others.

You like no rain, lots of rain, heat, cold, humidity from hell, gentle sea breezes, dry air that never moves? We got all that too. Do you like space to move around, owning land, county life, city life? Yep, got that. How about horses, cattle, giant mosquitoes, aligators, snakes, nutra rats, armadillos, opossums? You know we have that and more. We have Nasa, the Mexico border, Texas music, festivals, and highways lined with bluebonnets. Oh and the best bbq, boudain, margaritas, Dr Pepper and Sweet Tea. You will hear us often say "well bless your heart", cause we were raised that it's not polite to say "Fuck you" in public or social situations. Come one down, we would love to have you. @@user-lu6ht4sg2u Around here in Beaumont, I see houses for rent all over, we also have many brand new really nice apt complexes with tons of amenities. Land is easy to come by. We are an hour east of Houston, and less than that from the beaches of the gulf. About an hour to Galveston. We have Mardi Gras wrapping up on Tuesday in the downtown area along the river. Cost of living is much lower than most places in the north or in big cities. There are many refineries or plants in the area that have good wages and benefits. I have never had any trouble finding a home or an apartment to rent, and I am 63. I have never paid more than $1000 a month for a 3 bdrm home. It has been quite a few years since though. Hope you come see us down here in SE Texas.
