I just hit the ten month mark. Finally got my expander out about 3 weeks ago and it feels great. I feel like I had a cast on my tongue for 9 months and finally got it off. The reason my ortho kept it on for so long was so he could move my teeth more efficiently without tipping the teeth. Since this is all about health for me, I want to make sure I keep as much space from the procedure as I can.
He's now working on expanding the right side of my bite since the right side was just kind of hanging from the surgery. The left side since it was tethered expanded way faster, and now that he's going after the right side I can feel the right side of my jaw stretching from all the myo stuff I've been doing and my jaw is able to open more and more because my bite is more balanced.
The last 6 weeks or so I can chew a ton more and that's also been awesome. Being able to eat a ton of salads and veggies again since my bite lines up enough to chew. It's been an amazing journey and I recommend it to anyone who has had issues with breathing or sleep if that's why you're doing it. It's a game changer!
