Happy 2022! In this video I wear a holter monitor for 24 hours and vlog my daily life with a Green Cheek Conure. Rhi & I also update you on what's going on in our lives.
Minyip and I had a large break from harness training because she was showing signs of being scared of it, so now we've picked it back up and taking it slow. I would love to be able to take her outside safely in a harness, but don't want to force her to wear it. In this video you can see the training in progress, and you can also hear Minyip speaking (saying "baby") in the shower. Minyip can also fly now, and you will also see that towards the end of the video.
I haven't made a video for a while since we've been stuck at home. COVID interrupted our plans as usual! It's getting more and more difficult to avoid it, but we have been okay so far.
We do have plans for late February, as we've booked an Air B&B for a weekend trip near the Mornington Peninsula (Rhi has a hair appointment nearby, so we're making a trip of it as we are both going a bit stir crazy and need a break!). Minyip will come with us and we will be using the portable aviary (we also used this during Christmas and it was great!), and as usual she will be travelling safely inside the Pak-O-Bird during the car ride. This is the safest way to travel with a bird, especially since you can secure the carrier to the seat with the seatbelt.
There is a misconception outside of the bird community that it is unsafe to travel with a bird, but this is not the case. There are safe ways to travel with a bird and we've demonstrated that in this video. Travelling is never 100% safe for anyone but all you can do is take the correct precautions to minimise risk. To anyone reading that may be concerned about travelling with a bird, it's important to be able to travel with a bird so you can take it to the vet or bring it on holidays with you when nobody else can take care of it. It's a very responsible thing to do, but not everybody is educated about that. Although, if you are a bird owner who doesn't restrain your bird in the car I would strongly urge you to reconsider in case you have an accident and your bird gets hurt. The Pak-O-Bird is sturdy, but soft for the bird upon any sudden impact (unlike a regular cage). I have the small size for Minyip.
Rhi & I have been busy since Christmas even though we haven't gone on many adventures. We've been having fun gaming, seeing friends and I've been trying to get my health back on track. I will make a more dedicated video to update you about my health in the future. You may be aware I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia & SIBO, and currently in the process of testing for POTS. Basically I'm living with chronic pain and gut issues every day, but on top of that I'm feeling dizzy, have problems standing up & get heart palpitations that are so far unexplained.
I am not actively seeking work at the moment... although the work in my area is severely limited anyway. I have worked a few odd jobs recently, but my health has steadily declined since then. For now I'm trying to take care of the house & garden, whilst looking after myself & Minyip. Rhi continues to work full time with Fisheries.
