There is something wonderfully pleasing and soothing about watching James May make Shepherd's Pie. I particularly enjoyed the cut to his drill. Also that James drops things while cooking as much as I do.

I really enjoyed this mini series and I am not even that much of a cook. I think I could watch James May do just about anything and be fully entertained. Sometimes the presenter is more important than the material.

Congratulations Mr. James May on your succesfull Shepherds Pie!!! I would like clarification on your "nob of" reference though. You said the butter should be about the size of a nob of cheese, but later said the cheese shoild be about the size of a nob of butter?? How big are we talking here? I feel this is important to the whole recipie and cant progress any further in my own pie!! :(

I think everyone would think it was lovely how a nice old man had discovered modern technology and had decided that his contribution would be to film himself cooking dinner, so he could teach the youngsters how to cook a proper English meal (with an Indian twist - maybe he was stationed in India for his national service and got a taste for the local cuisine). I think it would be wonderfully endearing to see.

Just cooked this with a few alterations (no chilli or cardamom, no worstester sauce as there was none in cupboard and as my mum is dairy intolerant no cheese and using dairy free milk and butter) and it was delicious. The mushrooms really brought out the flavour. Thanks James May

he lives alone.. with a cat.. in an (i presume from watching the kitchen) average house, and he's around fifty.. Looking at him you'd just think he's lonely, bored and sad.. And he's not.. He just utterly enjoys this sort of life.. So awesome!
