That's the beauty of the show and game it's based on: they tell a legitimately good story! You don't have to be a fan of both, or even experience both. Either one gives a good experience to a first time viewer.

Absolutely loved it. One thing about the "intro" section with Sarah that I would have preferred if they had kept from the game is the placement of the intro credits. I think Sarah's death hit slightly harder in the game with the cut into the intro credits where the somber music really let you process and feel the gravity of her death for a while before the time jump. Though I guess that would have been an extremely long cold open for TV standards.

The reason the game is so beloved is because of the incredible story and the characters within it, they grow and change and are real people. This show so far, is almost a carbon copy of the game, but some things have been changed for it to make sense as a live action show. The changes are great and the things they didn’t change are spot on. If it continue like this with so much respect given to the source material, this will be one of the best shows of 2023 and probably my favorite. Love the reaction, so funny but so tense! Can’t wait to see what you think of episode 2, and new episode comes out tonight!

Nico Parker was fantastic as Sarah. She's as brilliant an actress as her mom, and looks a lot like her mom too. Oh I don't know if you know, on the HBO Plus youtube channel there is a podcast hosted by the Joel voice actor, the series director, and game creator. They talk about each episode. It is realy good. Like for episode 3, the director talks about Bill's line "This isn't the tragic ending at the End of the Play" and devles into the deeper meaning he had for that. Figured you as an author would find some of their though processes interesting. The director has been doing podcasts for quite few years just on general movie making, story telling.

The game jumps 20 yrs too, just from 2013 - 2033. They made it 2003 in the series to bring it to present day.

I believe the game started with Sarah in 2013 (roughly the time of release) and then had the 20 year time jump putting it in the future around 2033. If you look at the sign on the wall, it gives you the time to total infection based on where a bite occurs on the body. Many elements of this are literally lifted right from the game. Lines and exchanges, camera shots, scenes. I mean a lot of elements.

Agree 100% with how incredeble the exposition and world buildong is done here. Just in few scenes you can understand the norms and langth to which they are willing to go. You dont even need a backround story to why Firelfies are formed. Its clear people gonna revolt against this new dectatership.

I ADORE that they are SHOWING and not TELLING things They don't tell you the kid is positive (that red = dead), they SHOW you with the Red and the FEDRA's face They don't tell you they are Euthanizing the kid, they show you with the red shirt/green shoelaces that they Euthanized him (NOW you know Red = Dead) They don't tell you this is a totalitarian situation, they show an execution and show you an announcement about "to prevent infection AND insurrection"

I just watched the first 2 episodes and I love this story concept. The characters are so interesting also. I actually got this game with my PS4 several years ago, but never had interest in playing it thinking it was just another random zombie game.... but I am so glad I got to experience it through this TV show. It is so different from what I thought it was and the second episode was soooo creepy once they got out in the open city area. I definitely would love to see your reaction to episode 2!

Congratulations on the PS5! A cool thing to do would be to watch a playthrough of the game, if you don't want to play it, up to where the episode ends. The endings so far have been clearly defined points in the game, so you can definitely tell where you should stop. Some seems and moments are taken directly from the game, including the camera shots, like the car ride while the outbreak happens, or Ellie looking out the Window at Joel's apartment and talking about never being outside the Quarantine Zone. How they meet Marlene in reference to the Robert situation is completely different in the game, and shortened for time, while they add context in the show by showing more of Sara's day pre outbreak, or Ellie being chained up by the Fireflies, which isn't in the game.

this show embodies the game but works different, some things were changed to not only make more sense but to create something beyond, like the creator Neil Druckmann said: “the series gave us the open space to emphasize and go beyond on things that couldn’t be in the games for a matter of space and game time” Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey (Joel and Ellie) haven’t played the games, just like you, they also weren’t allowed to play it to make their interpretation more believable and unique to them. The idea of the zombies changed because in the games the zombies that grow like the one in the wall produce pheromones that you need to avoid by covering you’re face with a facemask but in the series to be more believable they make it a bite or simply a close enough encounter (get ready for episode 2 after this that i said😂😂) The actor who played Marlene (the firefly leader) is the one who played her in the game. (idk i thought it was an important thing to point) This series is made in a realistic point of view, as if like this was the real world, everything is alive or can kill you so watch your back is a most. I know you said you are not here 100% blind but either way i want to welcome you to TLOU world and i hope you’re ready to cry, smile, wanna fucking blow some people’s head and feel like there’s hope.

The reason why I am so impressed by this adaptation, is because of how faithful it is to the original source material, the story is already told, and I really would love to see it presented again but for an audience who are unfamiliar with the story, and just games in general. Most adaptations are very bad, from "cowboy bebop", to "Resident Evil welcome to Raccoon City" because of the lack of accuracy in the story. The last of us brings extra scenes that were not in the game, but they are there to bring context to certain things as you play as Joel, and don't see the perspective of the other characters, so you just have to take their word for it if they say they got jumped 30 minutes ago and that's why they don't have an item with them. Also fantastic reaction and I am glad the writing made you engaged to ask questions, like with the idea of public executions being a normal thing, and the emotions you went through watching tense scenes!

When hanged by the neck, it's (supposed to be) intended to kill you by breaking your neck, which is relatively quick and painless; asphyxiation is a backup. When being killed via lethal injection, there have been cases where the formula wasn't exact, and the one killed reported feeling like they were burning from their veins out. When being killed via guillotine, there have been reports of the head continuing to speak (although more incoherently) for about 6 seconds after being completely severed. If not done properly, any way of killing is pretty unpleasant. Not that dying is normally pleasant. Just thought I'd share my thoughts 😅

So the thing about the injection is that we dont know if it works on healthy people. All we know is that it works on the infected kid. So, while unlikely, it IS possible that a hanging would be one of the less painful ways to execute someone. Its entirely impossible that you are correct, but i jusy wanted to point out the leap in logic.

The game opens up with Joel getting home at night and getting his birthday present, and there are plenty of scenes and conversations in the show that were implied but never shown in the game. Thanks to the huge sin called halo tv series i almost go to therapy, because its an insult to the halo franchise. Remember hannah, while hollywood and many book genres have crisis of creativity, videogames lores have keep improving nonstop. What you see in your other channel is just a free sample. I just don't like how much it's copying the game. The game had perfect storytelling, the show is not original to me, no new ideas. The game was enough cinematic to make this show redundant. They could look at the world from a different character or change something at least.
