I listened to this album so much around the time it came out. Such a polished and easy to listen to experience. I also love how some of the more experimental sounds of the voidz found their way into this album with a more contemporary indie rock sound, which makes perfect sense with Rick Rubin at the helm of production.

The start of ode to the mets is the same as the intro to the frontier index by the Silver Jews which is a fantastic track from their 1996 album 'the natural bridge' pretty much a slacker rock/indie rock classic.

I distinctly remember how cool it was,waiting for any news about The Strokes possible new album around 2019. Everyone was so deflated after Comedown Machine,as if the band was done and Julian was gonna focus entirely on The Voidz...and then me,alongside everyone else,heard The Adults Are Talking and Ode To The Mets live for the first time,and all doubt about this being an all-timer disappeared. It was a long 9 month wait,but sure enough it didn't disappoint. It's telling of the record's quality that some people's biggest criticism is that Bad Decisions sounds "too much like one of their classics",like it's a bad thing that it's a little derivative. My pick for underrated track is definitely Selfless,Julian's vocals are immaculate here,and I can't help to scream along,especially near the end. If I can suggest another record,it would be "You're living all over me" by Dinosaur Jr.!
@miguelislove.
2 ай бұрын
The chorus of bad decisions might be a bit repetitive. However, it's actually inspired by the 80's sing dancing with myself, which basically made the chorus fit pretty well since it had an 80s vibe overall

Big fan of the channel, I have a few suggestions for future videos: 'Strange Mercy' by St Vincent: A really interesting pop artist who's worth checking out, and i feel like this is her best album to start with 'Faith in Persona' by Death's Dynamic Shroud: My favourite DDS album and my favourite album of 2021 (tied with one other record). This one is a lot more pop focused than 'I'll Try Living Like This', but their sampling and production is unbelievable and the songs on this album are some of the catchiest I've ever heard, a lot of earworms on this record for sure. 'As the Love Continues' by Mogwai: The other album that I have tied as my favourite from 2021, this is a great introduction to the band and a great post rock album. It might mot be as complex as God Speed You Black Emperor, but it's a really powerful album with no skips. 'Depression Cherry' by Beach House: My favourite Beach House era is their early albums, but this one is gorgeous too. And also 'III' by Crystal Castles

I usually write a meme in these comments but I got a story for this one. Its 2020, I'm working my first job with a buddy, he tells me about this band he likes, the strokes, I said "oh yeah they mr. Brightside guys right?" He laughed and said no, played The Adults Are Talking on the ride home, I've been a fan ever since. I saw them in 2022 open for the red hot chili peppers and it was an awesome show. I havent seen or talked to that guy in a while, but I always think of him when I hear that song.
