Bodie was doing his best, but after watching this, these guys are the experts in EV. Hope to see things moving quickly now.

AEM stuff is top notch and excellent decision to put it into this application. Glad to see someone doing this who is well versed in what needs to be done to get this fully operational and on the road via driveline (electrical engineer and also software programming). Bodie can do his thing once it gets back to finalize all the cosmetic and fabrication details needed. Hopefully Tim can get this on the road by Xmas or hopefully New Year's. I'm betting it will do an amazing burnout and Tim will finally get a big smile on his face after all the headaches experienced to turn this idea into reality over the past several years. Thanks for the update at the EV facility!

Remember guys, this project was started as a gasoline engine. Half way through or better, Tim changed it to EV and Bodie tried to accomplish what Tim wanted and even hired a specialist to do the EV part. Stuff happened and Bodie was left to finish the project. Hopefully, it will be completed this year? You can bet Bodie will not be taking on any more EV projects.

Battery management is very important and NTC thermistors are common to measure temps. GM engineers said they kept Li-ion between 80% - 20% of full and empty of charge. A "Serial Data" bus is the network that communicates all priority signals. It uses 2 wires with one at 2Vdc going 1/2 volt high and the other 1/2 volt low. This helps cancel out inductive voltages or signal noise. It is common to twist this pair of wires 9 times per foot. Sounds strange but sensors on normal modern engines use a magnet with hundreds if not thousands of enamel coated copper wire, allow electrons to move when a toothed wheel or reluctor draw the magnetic field across the coil. This creates an A/C signal which can be turned into digital 1 & 0 and spark plug wires can create signal noise. So these are twisted. Place both wires in a vise, the far end in a drill, done. Now, repeat about 48 more times the length needed. Tesla used coolant as motor get hotter, hope they modify the seal! Plus, bearings are metal and rotating magnetism is in the bearings and can cause premature failure so they are using a different material I forget (Ceramic, Titanium, whatever). I have driven the EV-1, S10-E, and hydrogen fuel cell. I am impressed! DK. ACDelco Tech Seminar, ASE Master Tech 78. Retired. I wish I was 30 years younger and lived next door. Fun yet important serious work like starting an engine for the first time, that you build with high end parts! Turn the key is scary. Let the electrons flow baby!

The lack of planning on this project is really showing.. I always thought the premise of this build was to have a power plant that looked like it was built by General Electric and Ford in the 1930s (Worlds Fair) not a new Tesla with an old body. It feels like putting an electric motor in a vintage vehicle you will always be chasing your tail..Everything will go out of date by the time you get it finished.. a lot like the latest and greatest iPhone. I think I would’ve been more impressed had they done an E 85 flat head with fuel injection and see what was possible with old and new technology, that would’ve been really different and probably a lower carbon footprint in the end…

I see it like how cell phones are. A cell phone is outdated within 6 months. They are trying to keep up with EV technology WHILE having to fabricate everything needed to make it work in a street rod. Other builds I’ve seen are basically putting Tesla parts worked into a vehicle with little modification. Tim and Bodie were trying to build an EV street rod from scratch. The new company is pretty much doing what a lot of others are already doing. Using all parts from Tesla with a few mods. Realistically, this new company is just installing the motor, computer, and batteries. The other company is figuring out the driveline. So in reality, Bodie was doing the work of 2-3 shops.

Bodie has a lot of other jobs at his shop, and suspect it was an inevitable decision that this is what's best for both of them in long term. Tim wants this done sooner than Bodie may be able to provide with his shop's current obligations. Just business, this should be good for everyone, and it appears Tim get's a more current tech in BMS, motors, total power etc to make it all easy to support in future. Bodie will likely be happier with this overall when it comes back running and only needing another million details solved to be finished for SEMA. Tim admits he was overreaching in design beyond what anyone had proven. This is just a smart decision, obviously Bodie is disappointed, but Tim's the customer after all... So Kady to recap, the current spec is 1 x 650 HP ish motor in drivetrain, plus added 16th cell pack but minus 2 less powerful motors in new design (so equal weight total ?) ? WOW, no wonder the need for composite in driveline with more than 600+ HP and acceleration potential. I look forward to more videos in both shops as build proceeds. Looks like weight balance fwd/aft will be improved. Now Bodie can concentrate on power assist and AC systems.

It's silly having all this going through a conventional style rear axle. After seeing the Tesla swapped drift e36 featured on Hoonigans channel and the fact that it did such a massive burnout with so much torque that the tire shreds turned the fiberglass over fenders into dust why would anyone use something different? The rear mounted Tesla motors are just better.
