Being nuanced and not looking at the world through an idealized lens has suddenly made us “right wing”. The first time someone used the words “right wing” with reference to me in a conversation had me SHOCKED. I still consider myself left leaning. I just don’t live in fantasy land, I want feasible change.

My left-leaving moment came way back in 2015 in a gender studies class. I was very progressive at the time, and the class were discussing the social construction and performance of gender. I asked what I thought was a very innocent question along the lines of: 'But how can we say that gender is completely socially constructed when there is so much evidence to confirm that your biological makeup ( hormones, gametes, chromosomes, etc) dictates your behaviour to an extent. Isn't it a little arrogant of us, as liberal arts students, to disregard all that?' The look of absolute disdain on one of my fellow student's face when he turned around to say: ' That's sex, not gender.' Love the content, Jack. Keep your mind open, keep questioning. 🧠

When they say right-wing or conservative, especially when used as a pejorative, it can be replaced it with "non-leftist." This is because they're constantly shrinking what the left is with each excommunication, the outgroup is bigger than the in group. Much of their popular support on issues is rooted in the average person's passive understanding, and people either not caring enough to know, or not knowing enough to care. Also, being scared of running afoul of them is supposed to manipulate more people into supporting them. But it highlights just how narrow their worldview really is. People marked as "right-wingers" or any non-leftists, run the gamut of views on religion, economics, and social issues. All we might have in common is that we're all hated by the left and lumped together to be judged by the most extreme or violent non-leftists, simply because they're also non-leftists. You might have nothing in common with whatever troll or jerk is being highlighted, but his non-leftness is spotlighted and you're a also non-leftist so you're scary too!! 😂 They create a stigma around being a non-leftist. What I love about the left is that anyone can instantly become right wing by standing firm against one tenet of leftist ideology. It's like a contract none of us signed. It doesn't matter how gay, trans, brown, muslim, jewish, or atheist you are, you're not a leftist with only 5% disagreement with them. They want to pretend they're inclusive, but it's incredibly conditional, and is the results of decades of exclusive pandering. With the rate that people of diverse backgrounds and views are excommunicated from the left and considered rightwing, the right has become defacto more diverse and representative of real world individuals. It contains more positions the left is refusing to allow for in its increasingly narrow views. You can see this in the fights different rightoids can have with each other while still clearly all being non-leftists. Whereas when leftists fight, someone will ultimately "impugn" the leftist purity of someone else because any moderation or compassion to the "wrong groups" is seen as moving rightward. In a way, they're right, which is even sadder than they realize. What bonds us all is merely that the left hates non-leftists, regardless of how similar their positions may be on some issues. I think the planet is a warming globe and that vaxes are usually helpful, and I've realized that diversity is wonderful (so long as it's more than skin deep and sees the individual.) Newsflash, there's plenty of people to my right who think that too, or can be brought to if they see that such views are not exclusively indicative of cultish brain rot and nefarious motives. You're a free agent. You don't need to run to the right, because wherever you will go will always be "right-wing" by virtue of the left saying so. Use that to your advantage. Like Joe Rogan, or Maher, you're not chasing left or right money, you're being yourself, and being yourself gets you much more hate from the left than it does the right. Your job is to find the nuances and bring some visibility to the diversity and freedom among us non-leftists. So the solution is to be everything you want to be and everything you couldn't be under the banner of the left. Be compassionate, empathetic, stand up for minorities, be sassy and feminine, find the joy in life, *and* call out the constant detrimental identity based victimhood and obnoxious powergrabs these people further on the back of their exploitative crybullying, and how nearly every institution in the world lines up to coddle and cover for them without any Democratic input or scrutiny of their claims.

Agreed. I do not want to have anything to do with the woke ideology & identity politics BECAUSE I am a liberal person. I think those ideologies are antithetical to classical liberal values, which are much more individual-centric. It's scary how much of a groupthink there is going on in workplaces, universities, media, etc. Sometimes it makes me feel quite isolated. Dating as a gay man is also difficult because of this, inasmuch as a great deal of us just uncritically subscribe to this package of views. However, I will say that I feel things are starting to change for the better.

@@JackxJewell Err- That’s not entirely true. To simply be more aware is synonymous with “Woke” and woke has been since changed to be something like “negatively or irrationally progressive”. Red Pill started as a way for men to share the experiences they have and the awakening surrounds realizing what motivates women especially with regards to more successful mating strategy. As young men society conditions us to remain oblivious of those behaviors as a form of manipulation. Realizing this how it branches to essentially almost every kind of economic subject matter is what “Red Pill” is about. With said realization often comes with a phase of anger about being lied to your entire young life. Some blame women at first, but later realize it’s not worth being upset about the game- you just learn to play it better.

I’m among the “lefties who left.” I still don’t agree with so many conservative stances and honestly despise Trump, but I cannot stand the modern leftist movement. I’d been getting frustrated for a while, but my “moment” of clarity came when Lia Thomas won her NCAA race. As a woman, I simply did not understand how so many people were being so willfully blind to her being a biological man, with an obvious difference in stature to all of her competitors no less. And any attempt to meaningfully discuss the issue was shut down right away by leftists in the media: the whole “trans women ARE women” argument just felt so ignorant and harmful toward biological women. I will always respect a trans person’s preferred pronouns (though I do struggle with anything not he/him or she/her) but I do not respect the intrusion into women’s hard-won rights. That’s where I draw the line.

My university was kinda of wild, political correctness wasn’t really a thing, I recall on one Halloween, I saw a few students wearing the triple K white hooded costumes, one I swear was black (only saw his hands) this was back in 2009 - 2011. I met so many people but the good thing was that political discussions weren’t really a thing, unless you were doing a PollySci or InterPol degree I guess. My neighbours in second year were Welsh nationalists (they weren’t students), voted Plaid Cymru and all that, during Kate and Will’s royal wedding, I decorated the outside of my house in the Union flag yet we got on really well. Fast forward to sometime after I left, the student union banned the sale of the Express Newspaper on campus, thankfully the students eventually voted to repeal this ban, much to the dismay of the Student Union. There are so many examples were political correctness is infecting universities, one of my favourites is when the feminist Julie Bindal who was banned from taking part in a debate at Manchester University, ironically the debate was titled “does feminism have a problem with free speech”.

When your self-awareness is sublimated to a post-modern ideology that cuts away your agency from a grand narrative that gives credence to individual liberty, you are (insert here) Postmodern ideology often challenges traditional notions of self, identity, and individual agency. When self-awareness becomes sublimated to postmodern ideas, it can result in a fragmented sense of self that is detached from grand narratives or overarching belief systems that emphasize individual liberty. In this context, the individual's sense of a coherent, stable identity is replaced by a more fluid, situational, and fragmented conception of self. Rather than having a fixed "core" identity, the self is seen as constantly shifting and reconstructed based on social contexts and interactions. This postmodern view tends to be skeptical of universal truths or grand narratives that claim to explain reality or provide meaning. As a result, the idea of individual agency stemming from Enlightenment ideals of autonomy and self-determination is called into question. Instead of deriving meaning and purpose from overarching belief systems that emphasize individual liberty, the postmodern self is seen as constructed through language, social forces, and power structures. This can lead to a sense of "depthlessness" or emotional flatness, as the self becomes a collection of fragmented images rather than a coherent whole. Ultimately, when self-awareness is sublimated to postmodern ideology in this way, it can undermine traditional conceptions of individual agency and liberty in favor of a more relativistic, socially-constructed view of identity and selfhood. Then you are really (insert here)

My guy. Your comparision of how the US and British treated the irish to both how the US treats and treated black people and indiginous peoples is absolutely asinine. It does not take much reading into history to understand why your comparisons are way off base, and even offensive. For instance, the irish were never chattel slaves. The irish never experienced genocide. The Irish became "white". Nobody else did. "White people have also been slaves" Is a terrible and trivial point. The largest example would be white people enslaving their own, and not as chattel. Do you truly think it's these are important comparison to make?
