If we remember Nolan Ryan, Vladdy Sr., Howie Kendrick, and Rod Carew as Angels, surely we'll remember SHOHEI OHTANI as an Angel. He still played a substantial amount of time with the Halos and although his whole time here was unremarkable (on the Angels part not Shohei's part), he still accomplished a lot as a member of this organization. Will his number reside in the rafters? Probably not, but that's because of Arte's refusal to hang up Garrett Anderson's, Jered Weaver's, Tim Salmon's, and Troy Glaus's numbers (screw Arte). But even then, the Halos were one of a very few teams that were willing to let Shohei play both sides of the ball and THAT'S WELL DOCUMENTED. And sure, you can say that NL teams were limited with what they could do without the DH, but that isn't a big enough excuse. The Angels let Shohei run to the fullest of his powers in the MLB where there is always a question of the NPB's legitimacy. If he went to a different team, it's pretty damn likely that we wouldn't be able to even appreciate Shohei's two-way stardom. I mean hell, they even also stuck with him through the rough patches and continued to let him do his thing. Most teams would have shut his offense down and made him exclusively an ace, taking the shine way off. So, as a hybrid Dodgers and Angels fan, I will remember his time both as an Angel and a Dodger. There is most definitely room for both and if you disregard his tenure for both, you are doing a disservice to the legacy of good career.

I think the Angels dropped the ball. Ohtani is a once in a lifetime type talent. He was arguably the best Angels player of recent memory, maybe ever. Maybe more of a recognition and appreciation for his work as Angel. The Dodgers gave Justin Turner a very nice welcome and even presented a check for his foundation. The former teammates greeted him on the field. Something like that seems warranted for Shohei too.
@Chinchuchwei_sr
14 күн бұрын
@@chriscerta9821 the angels gave him a presentation and a bench clearing standing ovation in the Anaheim/LA pre season matchup, then came to dodgers stadium and presented him with his regular season awards. They posted for him when he signed with LA, when he returned to Anaheim for the first time, and again when the Angels went to LA. What else do you guys expect they do? If they waited until now to do all that these same people would have been giving them crap for waiting so long. Angels literally can’t do anything without the overwhelming dodgers crowd commenting in droves about how pathetic we are. Arte doesn’t exactly have a history of making use of good prospects so it’s not like trading in would have done us any good, truthfully we are screwed until a competent owner comes along so why not keep the greatest player to ever live?We were rank 29th at the time for farm. What’s the difference between 29th and 30th? Losing the greatest show ever certianly isn’t worth it. The narrative that we “hogged” or “wasted” Ohtani is just dumb blind hating in my opinion. Obviously it didn’t go according to plan but the Angels created an environment that allowed the greatest player of all time to become the greatest player of all time so they must have done something right. Im not a Pirates fan, (Cards actually), but there is zero reason that umpire should've yelled/'called him out' like that. No one is there to see the umpire perform, and time and time again, umpires display this holier than thou behavior. Skenes had a little bit of a 'shit eating grin', sure. But guess what? MLB needs flair like that/any personality it can get. If roles were reversed, and a veteran pitcher yelled at an Umpire for a missed call, that umpire would have no problem throwing the veteran out and yelling back. It's such a delusional double standard, and the fact umpires are almost as untouchable as Supreme Court Justices, is yet another thing MLB shoots itself in the foot with.

Wish Ohtani went to any other team other than the Dodgers. Love him as a player but him being a Dodger ruined him for me. Pray his (non injured) downfall.

Shohei may never pitch again like he did in Anaheim but all they’re gonna talk about is his accomplishments in dodger blue? No one said he’s gonna wear an angels jersey in the HOF but to say his accomplishments in Anaheim will be forgotten is crazy trev

Let’s not forget Anaheim was the only team who let him play two ways. The LA elitism is always so nauseating. Anaheim deserves at least a nod bro.

@@Chinchuchwei_sr"LA elitism" Don't forget the Angels still try to claim LA for marketing purposes.😂

@@SuperCatacata I would argue the overwhelming majority of fans hate the LA marketing. I have no idea what arte smoked, and clearly still does

@@SuperCatacata our owner does…. Not the fans. Find me one fan who wants to be called LA. Dodgers fans are broken records they always bring this up like there is even one Angel fan who wants to be called that

Hey don't blame me, get your abyss of an owner to actually sell the team if you guys hate it so much. Doesn't change the hilarity of that "LA elitism" comment when your team literally tries it's best to bring in that sweet LA money.
