In this article, we have embedded a video testimony of a long time patient who initially sought care because he was suffering from chronic long term low back and sciatica problems. Before finding out about the upper cervical technique, Ezel and his wife were seeing a regular type of chiropractor who helped. He would receive full spine adjustments and feel relief for many days. However, the pain would always return and he was married to full spine adjustments, which is a much better option than taking pain killers! One day he and his wife saw an infomercial and were impressed with the philosophy and rationale behind upper cervical care. There is an old saying a picture is worth a thousand words and I would like to add that a video is worth 10 000. They were struck by the doctor's passion and the common sense approach. They did not go into the doctor initially but mentally logged the information.
Several years later, Ezel's wife Kim, read an ad that we ran in the whole person calendar, an alternative health publication distributed in Southern California. Kim made an appointment for her son who was suffering from pretty severe depression. After he had his upper cervical spine corrected his depression improved in short order. Kim was impressed and as a result, also got under care. Kim was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis since she was a child. Over time, most of Kim 's pain resolved and eventually, she convinced Ezel to come in for care.
As Ezel explains in the video, he suffered from long term chronic sciatica and low back pain. He was helped a lot through regular chiropractic but he was looking for something that could help completely heal the problem so it wouldn't come back. Thankfully, after a period of specific Blair upper cervical correction, he healed through his sciatica and low back pain.
You may be wondering what does the upper cervical spine has to do with the leg and back? Next, we will explain how correcting the top of the neck can help a host of health issues that are anatomically removed from the neck.
How Does A Correction In the Neck Affect the Low Back and Sciatica?
The brainstem, housed by the top two vertebrae in the neck, is the autonomic control center for most functions in the body. The brainstem is responsible for the postural muscle tone of the entire spine, not just the neck. When an injury occurs to the top of the neck, the top vertebrae can misalign, and interfere with the postural centers. This causes a cascade of effects through the body, including structural imbalance, which can lead to low back pain, mid back pain, and neck pain.
Sciatica is most commonly caused by what is known as piriformis syndrome. The piriformis muscle attaches to the sacrum ( hard bone between the buttocks) and the femur. Underneath the piriformis lies the sciatic nerve. When the piriformis muscle becomes chronically tight it can entrap the sciatic nerve resulting in sciatica. The tone of the piriformis is regulated in the brainstem and therefore can be affected by an upper cervical misalignment.
What Exactly Does a Blair Upper Cervical Doctor Do?
Blair Upper Cervical doctors are specially trained to locate spinal misalignments in the upper cervical spine and correct them. Spinal misalignment is located by running a battery of neurological tests that locate the spinal segments that have been injured and misaligned by a prior neck injury.
Once located, precision imaging in the form of digital x-ray or cone-beam computed tomography (Cbct) is used to precisely determine which joint has misaligned and the angulation of the misaligned joint.
Each person’s anatomy is different and therefore imaging is used to uncover the blueprint to be used to correct each patient’s individual misalignment pattern. Once this information is gleaned, a gentle, light correction is made without twisting, popping, or pulling.
The patient is then monitored overtime to ensure that the correction is holding. If the testing indicates the need for another correction, then it is performed.
However, the goal of Blair Upper Cervical Care is for the patient to stay in “adjustment”. It isn’t the correction that produces healing. It is the removal of nerve irritation and the adjustment “holding” in its normal position that allows the body to function better and proceed through a healing process. This is how Blair Chiropractic care for low back pain and sciatica can aid your body in healing itself.
