Sometimes Robert will wake up and ask to go to church (it doesn’t even have to be Sunday!). That gives you an idea of just how devout Robert is. We make sure he watches church on tv on Sundays (he really likes Dr. Charles Stanley) and take him to church on occasion. He loves to write down the verses the pastor talks about and even though he doesn’t remember exactly what was discussed, he clearly is happy watching it. There is a calm about him when he is telling me about it (just don’t interrupt the show!).
Our family was not very religious when Robert was little but he’s told me that God spoke to him when he was in his coma (he almost drowned when he was 16). Robert says God told him he wasn’t done with him yet and since that time, Robert has been very devout.
It’s possible his epilepsy plays a part. There are studies linking epilepsy and heightened religious experiences.
Whatever the reason for his beliefs, they bring him peace. A friend half-seriously says he has a direct pipeline to God. Robert certainly has had his share of miracles so this wouldn’t surprise me one bit!
Wishing all of you as many miracles as you need.
