Jordan Trail day 31
Stage: Wadi Gseib - Wadi Alheimar
Distance: 23 km
Total distance: 764km
After a peaceful night, I folded the tent and prepared a modest breakfast. I boiled water for tea and sat for a while before continuing my journey.
I got back on the trail having refilled my water supplies earlier. From the very beginning the path led sharply upwards. The views were amazing. After about two hours, I felt the heat. The shirt was completely wet. As I continued walking, the ground began to descend. When I entered the dry river bed, my pace slowed down significantly. I walked wide on loose sand, sinking to my ankles. This march made me very tired. After 10 kilometers I was literally exhausted. I took a short rest and continued on. After another two kilometers in the distance I saw Bedouin tents. In front of me was a boy who wanted me to come to his camp. I didn't protest. Once there, the boy's grandfather arranged for me to sit behind his pickup truck because there was a shadow there. They changed my water because the one from the source was of poor quality. After a short conversation, the man's granddaughters brought me a huge plate of food. I ate with my fingers and my hosts watched me curiously all the time encouraging me to eat.
It was time to end the visit, so I said goodbye to these wonderful people and moved on. After about 2 kilometers I met people camping under the rock. They also invited me for refreshments.
When I said goodbye, I entered a completely different area. There was a huge dune in front of me that I had to climb. Walking on the sand I was very exhausted. I felt we had a crisis. My body refused to move on, so I took a break. I drank a lot of water and kept walking. When I went down to the valley, the situation changed. A huge Wadi stretched out in front of me, as wide as a highway. Here I was able to speed up and walk about 10 kilometers before dark.
I decided to spend the night on a small hill above the river bed. I found a small piece of flat ground and pitched my tent. Traditionally, with the help of a few sticks, I lit a fire and brewed tea. A tent and a warm drink were a substitute for home. Around loomed in the dark huge mountains and I felt happy drinking tea. My crisis is over.
Jordan Trail day 32
Stage: Wadi Alheimar - Abbasiya
Distance: 26 km
Total distance: 790km
I got up earlier than usual. I felt rested, although when I saw my face on the phone when I was recording the report, I saw the face of a tired man. At night I woke up for a moment and admired the beautifully starry sky.
After the daily ritual of making tea, I ate the rest of my food, set up camp, and moved on. The road for about 20km led through a beautiful gorge all the time uphill. I ran the next few kilometers quickly. It went well with a few exceptions. Every now and then I encountered rubble or huge stones that the river had brought.
When I took a short break, I felt a prick under my armpit piercing my body. Within a second I took my shirt off and it got stung by a wasp or something. I quickly drained the venom and the swelling did not appear. I only have slight redness.
I had to overcome the last 200m of the ascent on a short section in hellish sun. Here I felt the temperature and began to weaken. However, I mobilized myself and walked a few more kilometers.
Finally, in the distance, I saw the first Bedouin tents. I had no more water and food. I went to one of the tents and decided to stay.
The hosts traditionally treated me to tea and in a moment they fed me Galaya. It tasted like never before. After lunch I used the shower which was located behind the camp. This is what I needed. The water refreshed me and I felt much better. After that, there was more tea and a hearty dinner. However, I couldn't eat much. I eat little on this trek and my stomach is so cramped that I couldn't cram too much food in.
After dinner my host's sons came and built a fire in the tent. I sat with them for a while watching them spend time together.
Life is hard here. There's not much here. Almost nothing grows and they have to bring water by tanker. There are animal pens here. The host mainly has goats, camel hens, horses and donkeys. In addition, there are 6 cats and 5 shepherd dogs.
The family is very numerous. The host has 15 children. 5 daughters and 10 sons.
It was nice to watch this family reunion.
