More of a psychological trauma thing than straight up horror, but that scene in Bambi where the hunters first enter the forest. The other birds keep saying "Don't fly!" and the one quail freaks out so hard that she screams "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY LONGER!!!" And as soon as she flies out of the grass, she's shot down dead and her body thumps to the ground.

+thirteenfury OMG! Yes! I still feel bad for that quail. It's like she's having a panic attack, screaming, "I can't stand it!" and she tries so hard to flee, all the while her friends are begging her to stay hidden in the grass, and *BLAM* ! Also, I still gotta give Bambi major mood whiplash points for how his Mother's death was handled. They had a bad winter, just found some food, were enjoying the first greens of spring together, then that ominous music builds up, his Mother looks up, and tells Bambi to run...the music continues to build, and the two deer are running, as fast as they can, and *BAM* ...you never see a body, like you do with the quail, but it's still so chilling, and unnerving...and when you see that Bambi is safe, your fear is suddenly gone, but you just feel so sad, and empty, knowing he's alone now...

A weird habit I tend to do is subconsciously reinvent old footage/dialogue and put it in my head instantly into new stories/with other characters where it takes on a harsher context. So this pheasant scene, I dunno why, but I was provoked at an early age to imagine her dialogue coming out of a young woman during a war movie, in either a Holocaust prisoner's concentration camp or a war zone or some other equally horrific scene. Doesn't make this scene better to stomach at all.

A lot of people consider the Furnace Scene from Toy Story 3 to be the scariest moment in the entire franchise, but when I was a kid, the moment from the series that scared me the most was Woody's Nightmare from Toy Story 2. So much so that I actually didn't watch American Tail all that often just because of that thing. There was also a live-action movie of Pinocchio that was just REALLY unsettling all throughout (partly cuz of how creepy Pinocchio himself looked as an early-era CGI creation), but dialed the terror factor up to 11 when they got to Pleasure Island.

When I was showing the series to my little sister (who hadn't been alive during the original run), she ran from the room during the episode the same way I used to. I was so proud. C) As an adult, I now remember it for when they're talking about being in a horror movie and how only the virgins are safe, to which Jack responds "I'm dead," followed by Eric with the same line, and then Shawn with "I'm sick. Like, really sick. About as sick as you can get without actually being dead." It's the little things, you know.

Another moment that freaked me out: The teaser trailer for the live-action Grinch movie. I first saw it in front of Chicken Run, having no idea that a Grinch movie was being made. So, it starts off with dark-looking clips of the Grinch stealing things, being careful NOT so show his face, set to the tune of "In The Hall Of The Mountain King". Then, after showing the little girl shocked, it cuts to the first glimpse of the actual face of the Grinch, who mocks her and then shoves his face even closer to the camera. Finally, to cap it all off, it cuts to a clip of Carrey doing his biggest "evil face" as the music crescendos. All within the span of one minute. I was scared shitless by this trailer. Like, I genuinely though this was going to be a horror movie for a while, despite loving the book and cartoon. The trailer editors were obviously going for sort of a Tim Burton "creepy but fun" vibe, but for 7-year-old me, it was just way too much.

This is a dumb one to be afraid of, but the Genie from Aladdin scared me as a little kid. Just seeing his playful, grinning visage floating next to Aladdin, how massive and loud he was, was terrifying to me. I was a super shy kid so such an energetic character like Genie made me want to hide.

Things that scared me as a child: 1. Much of E.T. Everyone else may think that little alien is cute, but he freaked me right out. 2. Joker electrocuting that mobster in Tim Burton's "Batman". I'd turn my head, but I still loved watching that movie. 3. That episode of the Hogan Family where one of the kids dreams everyone is a zombie/alien/monster. I distinctly remember the shot of someone pulling down the newspaper the Mom was reading, to reveal she was one of "them". 4. Unsolved Mysteries. The theme song, Robert Stack's demeanor, and the ominous nature of the stories about disappearances and alien abductions all made a great big stew of "do not want." There might be more, but maybe I've forgotten them.

6. That Mickey Christmas Carol scene you mentioned, plus the scene with the fire. More the scene with the coffin just because I hated the idea of being pushed into a fire 5. I don’t know why, but that episode of Powerpuff Girls where they fight the Boogeyman, or was it the Sandman? I think both scared me a ton. 4. The opening scene to Finding Nemo. This scene always made me cover my eyes. 3. Tarzan: Clayton’s Death Maybe it was Tarzan’s face, maybe it was the hanging body, but that scene was terrifying to this day. In a sense, it’s pretty creepy. 2. Toy Story 2: Woody’s Nightmare. This scene scared me all the way to when I was ten. To this day, I find the concept, very disturbing. 1. The Winnie the Pooh Heffalumps and Woozle Scene. This scene always gave me nightmares. This idea of giant elephants attacking, and seeing Pooh getting physically attacked, it always left a scarring impact on me.

I _LOVED_ that episode of Boy Meets World when I was a kid. It was a great example of how humour and horror operate by a similar set of logics, as both rely on set-up, build-up, timing, and playing with your expectations. And yeah, the first time the killer walked across the screen I screamed so loud my grandmother ran into the room - only to find me and my sister laughing our heads off the very next second.

6. For me, I think the freakiest thing for me when I was a kid and watching Seasme Street was anytime Cookie Monster just devouered aNYTHING...I think I Was nervous to get my hand near any thing resembling a Muppet for fear of getting my hand eatnen off. 5. NEver saw X-Files. 4. ...Okay...That's...Dark. For a Disney Channel Sitcom, that is kinda terrifying in hindsight O_O (and I thought Hannah Montana was creepy wiht that one twin episode I was watching cause my sister didn't let me change the channel when she was watching it) 3. ...THAT GOD DAMN FIREMAN CLOWN! DX And following that up with Lampy turning himself into a lightning rod?! JESUS CHRIST, PRoto-Toy Story was dark! (Seriously, Brave Little Toaster is basically Toy STory except EVERYTHING is alive not just the toys). Though I think there is also a saying with the Sequels in that the one with Mars had an apparent Nuke strong enough to bLOW UP EARTH, and the one with the animals had a bunch of sentient computer viruses with that freaky song that haunts my dreams sometimes. 2. My skin started to get goose bumps when the song came on...yeah, I get you on that...SCREW THE WICKED-ESQUE MOVIE, MALEFICIENT IS MEANT TO BE THE MOST TERRIFYING DISNEY VILLAIN! YOU CANNOT DE NY OR TRY AND LESSEN HER IMPACT BY TRYING TO MAKE HER MOTHERLY! 1. Muppets Christmas Carol, eh? :P Neat :P And as for me...hmm... I would have to say a big thing that freaked me out as a kid was actually from the 4Kids Dub of YuGiOh. Yes I know 4Kids isn't that good and yadayada, but I did like their dub of YuGiOh as I could enjoy it and I still enjoy it to this day. HOWEVER, the thing that creeped me out is the idea of the Shadow Realm. Yeah, you can play a simple card game that is all about strategy, but the minute you lose your soul is sent to this hellish limbo created by Ancient Egyptian Mages that likely torture you for all time (THIS IS WHY I CAN'T GO ON THE MUMMY RIDE AT UNIVERSAL! I agree with you about the clown in Brave Little Toaster and the Beast's entrance. Two obscure things I'd like to share come from the movies Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland and Princess and the Goblin. In Little Nemo, the Nightmare King freaked me out, especially in the scene where he's some black goop thing and he abducts the King of Slumberland. That whole scene still gives me chills. And in Princess and the Goblin, the goblins are quite disgusting to look at. So when one creeps on an 8 year old princess and suddenly appears behind her door with an unsettling grin? I was afraid to look behind my own doors for years.

The Pleasure Island scene from Pinocchio really traumatized me as a kid, the fact that none of the boys were rescued or changed back made it all the more scary, whenever the scene where Jiminy discovers that all the donkeys were the boys who mysteriously went missing came on I would either run out of the room or hide under a blanket. And the Pink Elephants on Parade scene from Dumbo really freaked me out, it was a combination of the blank soulless eyes on the bubble Elephants, the creepy voices of the singers, and the intense music.

I grew up during the 80's and there was this weird cartoon called "Mouse and His Child." You can find it on KZitem. It was one of the freakiest, weirdest, existential shit ever but it's absolutely incredible. It's about a toy mouse father and mouse child that can only walk when the key in the back of the father mouse toy is wound. They go on many adventures, ending up at one point in the dump where they get enslaved by rats (they get enslaved a couple of times in this film). The rats run the criminal underground of the animal kingdom, and they use old broken toys they find in the dump as slave labor. The scene that will haunt me through my life is when a toy donkey collapses from total exhaustion, and the evil villain rat (played by the legendary Peter Ustinov) delivers this brilliantly chilling "Not happy in your work?" speech in this chilling tone, and then gets his mechanic rat to dismantle the toy donkey while he is begging for his life. You only see the action as shadows, but it is a truly HORRIFYING scene covering the callous murder of a slave and for YEARS I could not watch that film without fast-forwarding through that scene with my finger on the button of the Betamax and my eyes screwed shut so I didn't even have to see it fast forwarded. The whole film deals with some pretty deep life and philosophical concepts that are way too advanced for kids to understand (I know I sure didn't get it at 6 years old). It's really another film where someone didn't understand that not all cartoons are for kids, I think. But holy crap, I LOVE this movie even though it still freaks me out. Peter Ustinov, Bob Holt, Cloris Leachman, Frank Nelson, Joan Gerber...It's definitely something every animation lover should see. Just don't do it while you're tripping because you will NOT have a good time.

Coraline was hands-down my most traumatic childhood movie. Now granted, I was the absolute WRONG AGE to see this movie. I was 7. I was just a wee little girl who liked Barbies. Seeing this movie with the bugs in the shower, the slug scene, the Other Mother and her 'paradise' and the way it slowly unraveled into this hellscape, the Other Mr. Bobinsky being made of RATS, and ESPECIALLY THE CHASE SCENE IN THE SPIDERWEB. Dear GOD that was too much for my little head. Spiders were my biggest fear at the time and the Other Mother turning into one and having her eyes ripped out was the icing on the cake. Along with the moment where Coraline's bag gets snagged in the web and when she pulls it free, the Other Mother IMMEDIATELY starts running to her because she felt the vibration. And the door starting to close in on Coraline. Can you see why I wasn't able to sleep for an entire MONTH after seeing this movie?

I remember getting scared at a scene from an unknown movie or TV series where an alien was being dissected. Mom was switching channels, looking for something to watch together during a family reunion. For some reason she paused at this thing. It was a close-up of a knife smoothly passing through a light blue thing, and we all couldn't tell what this was or what was going on. Cut to camera behind the alien, where his ribcage suddenly popped open and the surgeons got a little startled. Then we all put 2 and 2 together and collectively freaked out.

Okay I know this is an old video, but I have been waiting to find a time to talk about my strange fear that I have had since childhood. I have not been able to shake it off and I still get nightmares to this day. The Toy Bear in the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh scares the shit out of me. Especially at the end where he winks.....I can't even look at an image of it without getting a panic attack. As a child, I would run into the other room so I didn't have to watch him. I have had nightmares of this bear crawling out of the tv to eat me, chasing me in the woods, hiding under my bed, etc. What's worse is I had a talking pooh bear that connected and a computer game when I was very young. It knew my name and everything. And at night, I would see it's shadow in the sillouette of our curtains. I am still bemused to this day why it still frightens me. I love Winnie the Pooh, he is one of my favorite Disney characters and I still watched the movie a million times regardless. I am convinced it's a repressed childhood memory. Has anyone ever gotten creeped out by that bear?

I lost it when you revealed your top childhood trauma moment holy crap my parent cpul hear me wheezing in laughter from a few rooms away. I mean, I get it, some of the scenes in any Christmas Carol movie got to me as a kid(especially Pete satan). As a kid it did scare me even though I love it, but now its one of my favorite Christmas movies. The first play I ever acted in was A Christmas Carol and of course some of the movie aspects carry onto the live version. For example, that motherfreaking bell. When the sound crew plays the same effect over and over and OVER again, it becomes less chilling and more "make that horrible noise stop before I rip my ears out I swear to god!". That pus all the memories of the show came flooding back. Made my not being able to keep his freaking chains quiet, my losing my voice on the second show, adopting props as children, etc. Now the movie just gives me nostalgia and I like to point out all the things that were different from the play and call the movie wrong. I also like seeing the part at end with the smoking dudes talking about Srcooge's death, because hehehe some of those were my lines.
