Spyder Dobrofsky stepped foot in our office a year ago suffering from severe debilitating vertigo. His vertigo was so severe that half of those nine months were spent confined to his bed. As vertigo persisted Spyder wondered if he would ever find normalcy again. He consulted multiple medical doctors and no one had a solution. Eventually his Avant guard allergist, Dr. Marvin Portner referred him to our office.
Spyder made an appointment and with great skepticism decided to give our office and the Blair technique a try. Like most patients who end up in our office, it was more of a last-ditch effort than being sold out on the idea of upper cervical care. Initially, Spyder did not have an instant fix. In fact, as he attests to in the embedded video, it was until many weeks into care that he started to notice significant improvement. What gave him hope was early on in care while sitting in the waiting room he talked with a patient who had recovered from the exact same condition he was suffering from. In fact, the whole purpose of these blogs and videos is to give people who are suffering and searching for solutions hope. Unfortunately, many who suffer from chronic health problems only find their way into our office due to a poverty of alternatives. In Spyder's case the first place he should have been was our office. However, like most in the public, he wasn't aware that a misalignment in the upper neck could have such devastating effects on his health and life until he got under the care and recovered.
Vertigo, the Neck, and Upper Cervical Care
When most people think about vertigo they don't think about the neck. It is well known that inner ear problems can cause vertigo. However, most don't know that the brainstem, which sits inside of the first two cervical vertebrae, has a nucleus called the vestibular nucleus that coordinates information from the eyes, inner ear, and joints of the neck to coordinate balance. If the upper cervical spine has been injured from a whiplash-type trauma it can lead to spinal misalignment and interfere with normal input to the vestibular nucleus leading to vertigo or dizziness. In our Los Angeles based Blair upper cervical health care office, we have seen several hundred cases of vertigo and Meniere's disease either greatly improve or completely recover from their health issues following Blair's upper cervical correction.
A hallmark sign that your vertigo is coming from your neck is it increasing or starting with certain head movements. Many cases who come to our office report that their vertigo is set off only when they turn their head up and to the right. Others have it occur when they look down and to the left. While other patients notice when they rotate the head to the right their vertigo kicks off. These are indicators that these positions are influencing a neck joint that is injured and when affected with pressure sense it's imputing information into the vestibular system aberrantly and kicking vertigo off. These types of patients are great candidates for upper cervical care and usually respond beautifully.
What Exactly Does a Blair Upper Cervical Doctor Do?
Blair Upper Cervical doctors are specially trained to locate spinal misalignments in the upper cervical spine and correct them. Spinal misalignment is located by running a battery of neurological tests that locate the spinal segments that have been injured and misaligned by a prior neck injury.
Once located, precision imaging in the form of digital x-ray or cone-beam computed tomography (Cbct) is used to precisely determine which joint has misaligned and the angulation of the misaligned joint. Each person’s anatomy is different and therefore imaging is used to uncover the blueprint to be used to correct each patient’s individual misalignment pattern.
Once this information is gleaned, a gentle, light correction is made without twisting, popping, or pulling. The patient is then monitored over time to ensure that the correction is holding. If the testing indicates the need for another correction, then it is performed. However, the goal of Blair Upper Cervical Care is for the patient to stay in “adjustment”.
It isn’t the correction that produces healing. It is the removal of nerve irritation and the adjustment “holding” in its normal position that allows the body to function better and proceed through a healing process. This is how Blair Chiropractic treatment can often help remove the underlying cause of many who suffer from Vertigo, dizziness, neck pain, headaches, and other chronic health problems by supporting the body in healing itself.
