#ChronicPain
In this article, we will discuss our patient, Phillip, who suffered from chronic neck pain and severe loss of cervical motion for over a decade. Anyone who has suffered from chronic pain whether it is in the neck, back, legs, arms, or head knows how it affects all of your daily activities. Chronic pain affects 50 million adults in this country. (1) This means 50 million Americans are not fully living and their lives are often crippled, effecting sleep, enjoyment of hobbies, and living fully present in the moment. Pain steals the joy out of life and unfortunately, instead of getting to the root cause of a patient's pain, the conventional system prescribes a painkilling medication that if taken long term can affect the health of the body. In this article, we will discuss Phillip's story, recovery through Blair upper cervical care, and explain how the upper neck is vital to health and can be at the root of multiple pain syndromes.
Phillips Recovery from 10 Years of Chronic Pain
As Phillip explains in his video testimonial recovery story embedded in this article, he suffered from chronic neck pain that limited his ability to drive, work, and enjoy life. Phillip is an avid horse rider and is an active individual. His activities that he once loved were impacted by his severe chronic neck pain. Phillip was not even able to look at the driver's side mirror when needing to change lanes! Chronic muscle spasms and neck pain was severely curtailing his ability to live the life he wanted to live. As we have mentioned many of our other articles, 50 million adults suffer from chronic pain in this country. (2) In 2017 over 300 million Pain prescriptions were written in the United States. (3) That is astounding considering there are only 330 million Americans in this country. We know that long term prescription drug use damages the liver, damages the GI tract, and damages the body, causing long term health problems. We also have recently lived through the opioid crisis. Pain killers never get to the root cause of the pain and sometimes lead to addiction and in some instances death. In fact, 44000 Americans die a year from Louis Pain killers. (4)
The large majority of patients who suffer from chronic pain, whether it be like cervical spine pain like Phillip, or other parts of the body is largely musculoskeletal and emanating from biomechanical issues limiting the range of motion, increasing muscle tone, leading to chronic pain. Thankfully many patients just like Philip find relief, even after suffering from chronic pain for ten years, by correcting the upper cervical spine.
What Exactly Does a Blair Upper Cervical Doctor Do?
Blair Upper Cervical doctors are specially trained to locate spinal misalignments in the upper cervical spine and correct them. Spinal misalignment is located by running a battery of neurological tests that locate the spinal segments that have been injured and misaligned by a prior neck injury.
Once located, precision imaging in the form of digital x-ray or cone-beam computed tomography (Cbct) is used to precisely determine which joint has misaligned and the angulation of the misaligned joint. Each person’s anatomy is different and therefore imaging is used to uncover the blueprint to be used to correct each patient’s individual misalignment pattern.
Once this information is gleaned, a gentle, light correction is made without twisting, popping, or pulling. The patient is then monitored overtime to ensure that the correction is holding. If the testing indicates the need for another correction, then it is performed. However, the goal of Blair Upper Cervical Care is for the patient to stay in “adjustment”. It isn’t the correction that produces healing. It is the removal of nerve irritation and the adjustment “holding” in its normal position that allows the body to function better and proceed through a healing process. This is how Blair Chiropractic treatment can often affect vertigo and aid your body in healing itself.
